I doubt we are gonna go on a bidding war with the other teams. Interesting point is that Bears run a 4-3 and JP said he clearly wants to play OLB in 3-4. I guess Bears are planning to throw some hard cash at him. BEars don't have any good draft picks so I guess they are gonna spend big in FA.

I am a Pats fan living down in Charlotte, NC.  I can tell you he is a good player but not worth the money it would take to get him.  The main knock on Peppers is he does not give you 100% on every play and is not the locker room leader we are looking for.

Peppers plays hard when he feels like it. That is not someone who I'd like to see on this team.
We need tough, hard working character guys where ever possible. That's what made this team successful in the past.
No thanks on Peppers and paying him huge dollars to play when it suits him.

Why throw all that money at him?  He has never played in a 3-4 Defense and he cost too much.  It's taking them forever to sign Wilfork and they want to try to sign an extremely high priced FA.  There are too many holes to fill to put all that money into one position.  NO Way!!!

Wherever he goes he'll ruin the franchise. Read up on him; most scouts are saying that he's a extremely talented athletic freak but he's also a bum who only plays when he feels like it. Nevermind taking plays off he takes entire games off and this when he's about to become a free agent.

Its been said that once he signs a big FA contract, he'll never hit double digit sacks again the rest of his career.

Sure, the could all be wrong and he could be a perennial 15 sack guy for the next 6 years but the downside is making him your team's highest paid player, pissing off your veterans and severely cutting into your ability to sign other FAs for a guy who contributes fewer sacks that TBC.

He's just too big a risk IMHO.

I don't think Peppers would take games off in New England.  He wants to rejuvenate his career and wherever he goes I think he'll have close to a career year.  I could see 15+ sacks.  Maybe that starts to go down over the next few years but as long as the money doesn't get ridiculous it may be worth it.

That being said, the money very well may get ridiculous.

This is all agent BS. Some of it might be reality, but most of it is about driving up Peppers' price. I still think he'll get the 15-18m he wants, but there are maybe two defensive players that I would like the Pats to pay that too and none of them are available in this FA class. The Cowpokes made their best off-season move by signing Ware who is still better than any FA LB in this class. Cutler is a headcase; Peppers takes plays off and Taylor is not Adrian Peterson. Big splash, maybe they win two more games.

15 sacks from where???? He will be stuck covering TE's and RB's in NE....Did we all forget about Adalius Thomas?  These things never workout.

I don't think the Pats offer will be enough and personally I don't want Peppers to come to this team.  Hope the Pats are using this as a smoke screen for something to come soon.

    Depends on the $$$$$

I'm intrigued - Peppers would be better than the free agents that the Patriots have already signed ... which is nobody so far.

Re: Hold the Phone--> Pats & Philly have deal on table for Peppers?!

    To ALL:

Alright, say NE actually gets Julius Peppers...  Peppers' freak size @ 6'6-6'7 and weighing 283-290 lbs while at the same time running when he was upwards of 290lbs a 4.68 40yd, ALLOWS for some INSANE potential uses of him...
~4-3 DE, either side-(and now with MORE OLB specializing & experience, Peppers could line up on TE side & rush, hold, or release with said TE)
~3-4 OLB (weakside as a pass-rushing specialist, but saying a 6'7 4-3 D-Lineman could NOT hold an end and turn a running play inside, Peppers COULD then play SOLB in a 3-4 just to mix up his looks)
~3-4 Left DE, (and with Ty warren as RDE, but whom also played some NT as a rook, and so either DT in a 4-3 becomes a potential for Warren too)
4-3 DT (next to Wilfork's NT/DT in a 4-3, with Peppers either standing trying to quickly penetrate an open-gap, or in standard 3-point stance

    Here's the 2 BIG Questions

#1:  HOW "unselfish" IS Julius Peppers?  Carolina in taking advantage of having good LBs for awhile (either in '08 or '09) deployed a 3-4 Defense at the beginning of 1 of these seasons and I recall Peppers stating emphatically that He Was NOT being used properly as a 3-4 DE (who's job it is to BE and control 2 gaps-(called a "3 technique" I believe?)-outside of OG and Both inside and outside of OT.   CAN Julius Peppers survive with possibly doing a little more "dirty work" for the team-as a 3-4 DE at times, as a "decoy" at times, dropping back to cover the pass, rather than 24-hour 3-4 OLB weakside pass-rushing specialist, blitzing on seemingly every single play

#2:  HOW can Bill Belichick BEST utilize Julius Peppers in order to BOTH maximize his potential, minimize his frustrations, and ALL for the betterment of the entire team?  For starters, NE's 3-4 D-lineman unlike Pittsburgh's 3-4 D-Lineman, are asked almost solely to occupy blockers and their respective gaps in order to free up the LBs, while Pittsburgh's 3-4 D-Lineman do far more stunting and penetrating than NEs 3-4 D-Lineman (almost in a way, "forcing" the ball-carrier to react/towards a hole, etc).  Belichick CANNOT, in getting a supreme talent and somewhat "selfish in his overall worth" in Julius Peppers, HOPE for him to merely "do his job", and do a mass of "lineman occupying/non-stats grunt work" for others, and to minimize the use of his freak skills...

Bump.  Patriots are still 'under' consideration according to Peppers' agent.

Could be a ploy for the Price tag to go UP in CHI-Town OR is serious and may get on a plane to Logan?!!
