How A Healthy Welker Would Have Changed That Jets Game....

I think with a healthy Welker we win that game.  Almost every catch Wes makes is for a first down, something we didn't have on Sunday.  Plus with Welker on the field everyone it changes the way the linebackers and safeties have to play because Welker is quick so if you don't tackle him he could take a 6 yard catch for 30 yards.   Randy Moss has never been much of a leader, we saw that when Chris Carter retired and Moss was left on the Vikings and on the Raiders.  Moss needs that possession WR to take pressure off of him like Carter and Welker did.

That said we did play an excellent defense possibly a top 5 defense in the NFL with Pittsburgh, Baltimore.  The Patriots are going to have a tough season ahead with a tough schedule, the key is to stay healthy, because the rust with come off of Brady by week 5.

The truth is that you don't know what you are missing vet to rook.

The rookie probably has a dumbed down route tree, and they don't rely on him to alter where he is going based on soft-spots and potential blitzers.

Add to the fact that Edelman, despite the praise, was out of synch for much of the game, and on timing patterns that can mean a lot.

The last two seasons Welker has played like a first ballot Hall of Famer, without a doubt.  You lose that and one of the best linebackers in the game in Mayo and clearly this isn't the same team, I'm not even mentioning the loss of Richard Seymour (still one of the best defensive linemen in the game.)   That's 3 of our best players.

I think everyone that is panicing about the loss should remember once we get Mayo and Welker back, we'll be okay.  We just have to stay in the race until then.

The game was close enough to say a healthy Welker would certainly have made a difference between a win and a loss for the Pats.  Edelman was great, but he doesn't have the same chemistry with Brady as Welker.  My guess is Welker would also have caught that potential TD pass Edelman dropped.  But for certain the Pats would have moved the chain far easier against the Jets pass rush had Welker been in the game.

I'm sure the colts would have had 2 more superbowls with a healthy Bob Sanders and Marvin Harrison.

But the game doesn't work that way.

At least one touchdown.  But it sure looked like Ryan put an unofficial bounty on Brady's and Mosses' scalps.  Rough em up and tatoo them at every opportunity.   I'd bet knocking Welker out of the game would have been a great exclamation point to their win.
