This rule is just ridiculous. How boring was that to watch kickoffs last night? How can we as fans ban together & protest this rule? -

Agreed, I made a post on this last week and everyone was ho-hum, like not a big deal.

I seem to think this diminishes the value of guys like tate and also guys that cover kicks. Why keep specialists on the roster just to cover kicks if noone is gonna run it out. I am hoping they change it back next year. They completley took away an important and exicting factor in football that can change outcomes of games. Now teams will soley rely on their offense, which Im not worried about in regards to our team but it makes the game boring as hell, wactching everyone take knee. What a stupid Rule Change!!!! Lot of guys who worked hard at their craft gonna be out of jobs this year and that mean more starters playing special teams, so i dont see how this helps. Now we will have important players getting hurt for no reason running down the field for nothin!!
Might as well skip the kick and just start everyone at the 20...smh -

Why would you?
1) Many teams, including the Pats last night, carry an extra "big leg" kicker in the preseason to save their ACTUAL kicker's leg for games that matter, so it makes it look worse.
2) To all the people who lament the loss of the kickoff return...is a 100 yard kickoff return for a TD better than a 10 play, 80 yard, 6:30 drive? I don't think so, I know the defense doesn't think so, I'd like some input from the other side on this.
3) Not every team has Gostowski, one of the strongest kickers in the league. Many teams see kickoffs fall at the 5. And as a fan of NE, with this D, I'll happily watch every single drive start at the 20.
4) Once the weather gets cold, the kickoffs get MUCH shorter. Even Gostowski sees some of his not even reach the 10 in November/December, and come the second half of the season, fans will suddenly be applauding the move.
I cannot believe all the utter overreaction to this move. When did they move the kickoffs back? 10? 15 years ago? Somehow, kickoff returns were STILL exciting back then, but judging from the nationwide reaction, you'd swear kickoff returns only became exciting over the past ten years. Deion was fine. Via Sikahema did well. It's a safety issue, that's why the wedge is gone, that's why they moved it. Remember the Buffalo player who got paralyzed (and defied odds in walking again)? If this move negates that EVER happening to a single person again, it was worth it.
If you really want to protest player safety, buy a Pats #31 jersey. -

Your argument is weak at the moment Drragon, cuz all i see are touchbacks across the league and you really think every preseason kicker is a rookie jusst saving someones legs and that those rookies have stronger legs than the guys who start?
Noone said a good drive is not fun to watch, but why even kick it and make guys run full speed and get hurt for a guy to take a knee. I could see if it was half the time but it was every kick last time. You have your opinion but I would rather see some guys running it out -

Its sucks but Jets were won of the top teams in the league when it came to starting field position of there offense. Not anymore. -

Well the reason the NFL is using was shown last night on the hit Woody took. Now that was a punt, but by eliminating kick-offs there trying to prevent those blindside hits players take when they are chasing a kick return and they turn up field and bam get blindsided. Now obviously this can happen at any time during a game but happens most often on kick-offs so "for player safety reasons" they made the rule.

Whenteh teams line take the field just before kickoff, or after each and every score, go down to a concession stand and stand in line for an over priced "anything". Won't look good on TV (all those empty seats), but the consessioneers will love ya! -

Why did the League even change this Rule? Was there some outcry for more pointless time before guys would need to return from the can after a TD?
I just don't see why it was moved up to the 35, when the 30 kept it interesting and THUS worth watching. -

Possibilities:
1) Get 20,000 of their closest friends and take control of Alcatraz, like the Indians, er, Native Americans did in the 70's, before Dirty harry cleaned 'em all out.
2) try to get a petition started, and rate the penmanship. The best/most legible signers can sign it a second time.
3) After the National Anthem is over, you can engage in a lengthy conversation, make that a short chat, about the possibility of the JESTS! and Dolts winning this year's SB (yet again). (Bonus time will be allocated if eh Bolts are mentioned.)
4) Tweet aimlessly and wave uncontrollably whenever a TV camera scans your section.
5) Critique the hand made signs brought into teh game for: spelling, grammar, and content.
6) Keep calling your kids, reminding him to bring back the change.
7) Insist that, if the NFL can move the kickoff from the 35 to the 30, then you have every right to move from row 20 to row 15.
8) Pretend to tear up your ticket(s) to the next home game, while actually tearingup the stu to the game you're in.
9) Demand $5 off any cold adult alcoholic beverage product at the concession stand.
10) Refuse to add a kick returner to your fantasy football roster, keeping teh rposter spot "open". -

Has any fan uproar concerning rules changes for offense and defense gone anywhere? ANd you expect one for special teams to be the first overturn due to public protest?

I hate the new kick off parameters! To me, if we are are going to see touch backs every time, no matter who the heck is kicking, then just put the offense on the twenty and skip the extra commercial time.
From a homer perspective, I don't like it either. The Patriots kicker was excellent at kicking touch-backs last year when not every kick off was a touch-back.
As for how it affects Tate, oh well. I guess he'll need to compete in the passing game if he is going to make the team. Good luck.
The Jets are hurting without Brad Smith? I don't get that. Seems like they were right to let him go because his value is seriously decreased. -

Patsman, this is why they should just skip it and put the ball on the 2o, maybe even the 25, cuz its hard to go 80 yards w/out something happening. My problem with regards to your point is that even w/ the rule change, guys can still get hurt. You still have to run down and get hit cuz you cant assume the guy is gonna take a knee or it will kicked into the endzone, so my point is guys are still gonna get hurt, but now it will be for no good reason and the exictement is gone. So you either employ specialists for a Chance to make an impact or you play more starters there and they still have to run down the field and expose themselves...so NO I dont buy the safety issue thing, if so, just line it up at the 20 like its pop warner and then you are making the game safer -

Just wait as the season goes on and all the touchbacks players are going to just dog it down the field and not care then out of the blue with the kickoff team sleeping someone will run it back for a td. -

Okay. I get the point that they want to minimize injuries, but why force us to sit through a pointless play sandwiched between two commercial breaks? Either keep it or get rid of it, but the current rule absolutely destroys the pace of the game...especially for high-scoring teams like the pats. -

This is one of the worst rule changes I can remember. This is like sewing the net back up in basketball so you have to retrieve the ball after each shot.
How could they have not figured out that you might as well cancel the kick off and start the drive from the 20 to really save injuries....and time for that matter. Oh I know why, because after each kickoff the league makes x amount of dollars in commercial revenue. B.S
