How is the Defense going to deal with Denver

See, it all depends on Manning...  Our 11 D starters, could very well EACH, have the game of their lives, 1 by 1...but for this game, and any Peyton Manning matchup, that's entirely inconsequential.

    I'll explain...

    Key in early, maybe even pre-kickoff in order to just get a roundabout sense about whether or not, Peyton's "pouty-face" is on the mark or not.  IF Peyton's pouty-face, IS in full-effect...wow- Look out, we might be lookin' at a bare minimum of at least 6, 30+ yards each, "Peyton Interference" penalties (obviously, ALL on the uptmost critical down and yardage times, at the most crucial turning point, momentum swinging times in the contest);

Now that's not bad...  That's just about the standard going rate in Peyton Interference pouty-face penalties (100 yards or so), or just a tad bit over (slightly over the buck 50 mark).  YET (and here's the game-changer), IF BOTH Peyton's scrunched up baby pout face is on, AND (on top of this) his forehead ratio is hitting on all cro-magnon cylinders (think in the neighborhood of a 3:1 forehead to face length-ratio)...well- Well, we might as well just concide the game before it even starts, b/c any pass that actually isn't caught, will be a 1st down Peyton Interference call anyway...He'll just go 100% Attempts-Completions all day long.

Yikes! "Peyton Interference" penalties! I wasn't worried about this game until you reminded me of this fact.

Manning seems to have trouble with the deep ball now more than ever with his depleted arm strength, so my view is you load up on intermediate routes, and dare him to do deep or make a mistake getting impatient for guys to get open in the mid-range game.

Let Spikes lead the run stuff mission, keep their offense off the field, get them behind, watch Manning toss a couple of picks, see vintage Peyton Manning face.

underestimate Manning at your own risk. He got off to a fairly mediocre start in 2008 because of injuries before taking off in the second half and dominating (winning the MVP and then losing to his new achillees heel the Chargers in the playoffs). The Pats should be able to score plenty but don't count the Broncos out. They have played a bruital schedule so far (3 SB contenders) and like the Pats should be better in December. I f  Manning can stay healthy I would expect his arm strength to get better as the years go on, and even if it doesn't his football IQ is still pretty formidable.

Patriots will have to continue to get after the QB, and chuck receivers at the goal line.

Minimize cover 2 type defenses.  Manning can get rid of the ball quick, so, dunno how often patriots can blitz - but - will have to occasionally do so - and appear to do so - to confuse manning as best as possible.  He reads defenses pretty well too.

On offense, score on first possession.  Continue the ground and pound to set up the pass. Continue being less predictable.

Oh, and if the D can create 2-3 turnovers, that would be nice too

I agree that both Champ Baily and Tracy Porter are superior CB's.

Many here are down on Ninck, not me, he applies good pressure on his side but lacks the power and moves to finish it off. Can't see him being more effective at more than the weight he's at now, a tad too light. Perhaps Vince will apply more pressure up front going against Koppen, he knows him better than anyone, we'll see. Vince needs to have a powerful DT next to him for pressure up front. What they have now is the bend do'nt break will continue.

All doing a great job on the forum and Can't add much more... Enjoy reading ya'll.

Re: How is the Defense going to deal with Denver

"Against the Raiders, the majority of Manning's passes flew barely 5 yards in the air, according to ESPN's Stats & Information. But the catch-and-runs were big." -- Tedi Bruschi

Peyton has a noodle arm this year, for whatever reason, and his malady may be getting worse with time.  Don't bother double-covering downfield.  Single cover and see if Peyton can throw deep over the single defender, or if the ball dies and comes down into the single defender's arms.  Crowd the line of scrimmage.  This crowding should further slow down Denver's running game.

Conspire to get interceptions between the numbers, as Peyton is occasionally not processing things quite as well as usual.  Out routes are safer for him because there's usually only one defender to watch.

Peyton is still great on out routes, slants and screens, so clamp down a bit on them.  He has the hurryup down cold.  He can still throw the ball away and look defenses off of his targets.  Don't be fooled.

Rush one guy at Peyton, the first guy to get through the line, because Peyton isn't going to run.  Wilfork against the released Dan Koppen is a horrid mismatch and the most direct route through, or shoot Hightower through if Denver double-teams Wilfork.  The rest of the front seven will usually need to stuff the run.

Hopefully CJ can get in PM's face and get a sack or hurry manning and make him throw off balance. We have seen His arm strenght isnt the same anymore and if he underthrows the ball we should be able to make a play on it.
