If Dallas are having salary cap problems how aren't the Jets?

With all the high priced free agents they bought in to beat the Patriots the last few years how are they still in the market for the highest priced free agents this year?

Because the Jets were $1.3 mill over cap... Dallas was $18 million.

Restructured salaries, backloaded contracts and players off the payroll. If they lose Edwards and Cromartie that would obviously shed some payroll. Taylor, Ghloston and others gone. I have no clue what their cap space looks like, but if they want to sign Asmougha they'll have to shed payroll.

Jets got lucky with dead money. They dumped a ton of players before March 11th and that produced 10mil of dead money that should have been counted (far more then any other team). Instead they determined dead money doesn't count (which really only helped the Jets oddly enough) so it freed up some extra space for them. Absolutely nothing to do with good cap management. If dead money counted they would be in a major hole.

You can spread certain money over five years.  I don't know if it's bonus money or guarenteed money.  This is how Holmes only costs a cap hit of a little under $3mil.  I don't know exactly how this all works but it seems that they risk placing themselves in a cap hell for 5yrs instead of one or two.

They did dump a bunch of players.

precisely. Lets see if Lord Goodell goes after the Jets for tampering with Aso if Aso lands there. Not happening.

In Response to Re: If Dallas are having salary cap problems how aren't the Jets? : Waaaaaaa.  Sort of like if there was a cap in 2010 then the Patriots could not have spent 150 million and Brady's contract would have them in a deep hole this year?  Yeah, sort of like that.

In 2010 the Pats would of had a cap number of 132mil, not sure where you got 150mil from honestly. The Jets would of had a cap number of 135.7mil (more then the Pats if you can't count).

Only the Jets saved more then 4mil by not counting the dead money on players released before March 11th.

So yeah it's sort like this

The Jets are big fans of living for this year.  Actually they were living for last year and it didn't work out.

Signing Holmes as a free agent for $24 million guaranteed, when the guy has messed up about once a year since 2006, strikes me as a sheer desperation move.  Having been rewarded big for messing up, everybody knows that he'll find some new way to mess the team up.  Plus, everybody else in the locker room knows that messing up is consistently the way to go, at least while playing for the Jets.  Rex Ryan has turned into a good coach, but that Mike Tannenbaum in the front office strikes me as stooge city for many of his draft picks (Gholston, DeWayne, Kyle Wilson), for his brainless drunkard signings and for his borrowing on credit against future years.  Overpaying past stars eventually leads to old guys with old trophies getting treatment in the trainer's room.

In Response to Re: If Dallas are having salary cap problems how aren't the Jets? : Wrong answer.  You must be relying on Miguel... he's a fool.  You can't use the preseason numbers.

With the exception that beat and national writers use Miguel's as a reference for Patriots salary cap matters and Miguel's updates the site throughout the year. Besides those facts and that you haven't listed your source for the random made up 150mil. Yeah real facts hurt

Right because the Jets have won the AFC East how many times over the last 10 years......1 time?!

Now that's a "glass's half-full" guy right there!!  I'm tellin'ya, ALL you loud-mouths dampered by the yoke of ever being successful in any way, shape, or form, Could really learn alot from a fella like this!: And so the moral is, IF you're never any good at all, you'll lose a darn thing; Because there's no point, in taking away what someone never has anyway...(I feel I'm shortchanging a Helen Keller or Rain Man joke, somewhere in here)

McCheaters makes me laugh......he comes into these forums arguing with everyone...not only that ..he posts an avatar that promotes some sort of tough guy look......yet he backs his Jets who have done nothing........McCheaters are you sure you aren't Rex Ryan in disguise? To be the man , you have to beat the man.....and the Jets have failed year in and year out in doing that........no Superbowl. So just like Rex Ryan ...you have alot of bluster...but at the end of the day you have no trophy and have to resort to coming on the Patriot board to voice your opinion that the Jets will accomplish anything important this year.
