'INJURIES":Sports writers' leading excuse why the Colts lost to the Pats and are diminished this season

So far, in every account of the PATS BEATING THE COLTS I have seen or heard in print and broadcast waves, the Colts were playing at an implied disadvantage of too many injuries, as if their injury situation was the reason the Colts lost.

Hmmmmmm...let's see...the Patriots injury situation...no Fred Taylor (the Pats' no. 1 RB)...no Kevin Faulk (best 3rd-down back in the NFL)...no Leigh Bodden (their no.1 CB)...no Ty Warren (veteran starting DL)...no Brandon McGowan...no Stephen Ghostowski. (Pro Bowl kicker)... no Steve Neal on OL...no Nick Kaczur on OL...no Jonathan Whilite (DB)...no Jarrad Page (DB).

Both teams have major injury losses.  Writers should stop making excuses for a declining Colts team.

Truths: the Colts aren't getting as many questionable calls going their way as in the past 10 previous years; they do not have quality replacements for players that have retired or left; the AFC South is no longer a soft division.

Even with three picks yesterday, Manning is a fantastic QB.  But this is a team sport and the truth is that the Colts don't have the depth nor the overall talent they had five years ago.  The Pats have done the better job of replacing lost players, coaching-up talent and creating roster depth.

The Colts did not just lose.  The Pats won.  And it was years in the making.

Did you expect anything else? What is the difference between having to replace your vets with young players and having a defense made up mostly of rookies. One is the Colts so its an excuse and the other is the Pats so it's a weakness.

These aren't injuries but they were on the starting roster and are gone...Maroney and Moss. If you said our backfield was going to be BJGE and Woodhead and our receivers would be Branch, WW and two rookie TEs people would call you crazy.

Has there been any "objective" comparisons between the two team's starting lineups from game #1 of this season, possibly including projected starters in the pre-season, to yesterday's game?  Looking at what chrisakawoody posts, seems the Pats overall injuries picture could be just as significant as the Colts?  But, the press loves the Colts versus the Pats and seems not to many give a lot of press to the extremely young D the Pats are putting on the field which can be a reason for late game slides.

Can we all get over the "The Colts have so many injuries and poor Peyton is playing with guys he hasn't had time to gel with..." BS. All teams have injuries. The Pats lost 3 defensive starters days before the season started. They are playing with 6-7 first and second year players on defense. Peyton had very little pressure on him all day yesterday, but threw three critical picks to this young, inexperienced defense. The guys Peyton is throwing to have at least been on the roster for 2-3 years. Other than Brandon Tate who played in one or two games, Tom Brady has only one (1) receiver, Wes Welker, who was even on the team last year. All new tight ends, the trade of Randy Moss, the Pats backfield is now their 4th stringer to start the year (Green-Ellis) and a waiver wire guy (Woodhead) taking on Faulks role. Somehow Brady and the Pats are making it work.

UD6.. I agree...  amazed at some of the whining we are seeing here.  Yes, there could be some areas for improvement, as with any game, but, to sound like the Pats lost?  Manning picks apart just about every team he plays and his accuracy of throws played a big part in his stats.  You look at many of the completions and they are throws right into that small window where no other type of throw can work.  Sheesh, even Brady did the same thing yesterday.  Difference is Manning HAD to do what he did to keep the Colts in the game and while the Pats seemed to go conservative in there offensive play calling going into the 4th quarter.

Not sure why everyone seems to forget we had a lot of injuries too.  You have to forgive the media though.  Many of our own fans forget that fact.  If our own fans can't remember, why should the media?
