Is the New York Jets 23-25 Record in the Mangini Years Tainted?

With news that the Jets and Eric Mangini "massaged" the injury report last year, the ultimate question must be asked: Will the mediocrity of the 2006-09 seasons ultimately be written in history with an asterik?

-Was Mangini breaking the rules in 2007 when he lead his team to their fourth win of the season in an heart-pounding 13-10 win over the 4-11 Kansas City Chiefs in the Herm Edwards Bowl?

-Were the lies a determining factor in the Jets historic 1-2 start in 2008?

-Was their foul play that led to the ability of the Jets to lose by only 21 points to the New England Patriots in the 2006 playoffs?

All questions that will haunt Jets fans for years.

I think so.  That near-.500 record will always be colored by Mangini's rules violations.  I can't quite look at that stretch, which week in and week out inpsired such striking feelings of ambiguity, the same way ever again.

Mangini gets an asterisk for being an A-hole, a rat, and a cheat. I'd say his career is tainted and he tainted that of the Jets franchise. Couldn't have happened to a better pair.

I cannot wait for ESPN and the NY Post to jump all over this story and flog it like a dead mule, hire a private plane to fly a banner, "Jets CHEATED!", for Sunday's game, and for the league to strip them of a #1 pick.

Seriously, just watch Jets fans and others equivocate.  Not reporting the QB has a major throwing injury seams a lot more aggregious than taping an opposing D.  The whole way opponents would prepare against the Jets would have changed dramatically with knowledge that Favre had a shoulder or chest injury. It would have been blitz, blitz, blitz.

And let's not forget that the Jets are currently being investigated for contract tampering...yet again.

If it was systemic over his tenure like BB's filming, then yes.

What was that? I can't hear you over the crowd noise coming from the sound system.

Re: Is the New York Jets 23-25 Record in the Mangini Years Tainted?

Yup. It is a violation of the rules, which means Mangini cheated. Anything he was a part of during that Jets year is tainted, and every win should get an asterisk. Cheating is cheating right?

Ugh... I'm so sick of "spygate" getting brought up. People clearly don't understand it was common for teams to do that, just like it's common for teams to cover up injuries.

Why does gate get added to everything now? We could call this "Bicepgate" or "armgate."

Favregate, and gate gets thrown on everything now because people are too lazy to be creative.

Looks like both Mangini and Belichik are now banned from the Hall of Fame.
