There it is in black and white......3rd rounder in the 2012 draft. Wanna keep arguing?

Over the past three years, Moss has caught more TD's than anyone. The next closest is 12 TD's behind. Moss is 4th in yards and 3rd with catches over 25 yards. How is he declining?

Re: Is the Pats F.O. retarded?

To the OP, Troy Brown disagrees with you.  Is he also retarded?

While the majority of callers to WEEI on Wednesday morning were upset about the Patriots trading Randy Moss to Minnesota, former New England great Troy Brown went on the Dale and Holley show and offered a different take: It's a "win-win for both parties."

Brown said it will force the Patriots to play the "methodical" type of football that helped them be so successful during their Super Bowl years, and it will make "all the players be accountable."

And for Moss, he said, it will be an opportunity to play with legendary gunslinger Brett Favre and have an immediate impact on a talented team.

Brown, who played for the Patriots from 1993 to 2007, pointed to the 2001-2005 seasons when Tom Brady had to look for the open receivers and "hit seven or eight guys" in a game. He said that type of offense makes everyone work harder, including the defense.

He thinks Brady may actually be better off without having Moss as an option and having to try to always go for the "big play" as opposed to consistently spreading the ball down the field.

Brown pointed out that the Patriots have the players this year to run that type of offense, citing the athleticism of rookies Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski and the talent of receivers Brandon Tate, Wes Welker and Julien Edelman.

With the roster the Patriots had last year, Brown said, coach Bill Belichick never would have made this move.

Brown acknowledged that Wednesday's news will be a distraction for Patriots players, but that it's helpful that this is a bye week for New England. He said
the Patriots "have about two weeks to get over it," and hopefully in the long run the distraction will be less than if a disgruntled Moss stayed in New England.

More black and white from Mike Reiss - "That pick could have been no higher than a fifth-rounder in 2012, because Moss has 10 accrued seasons in the NFL. ": http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4684710/potential-comp-pick-a-consideration

For the record, I am not the one saying he's declining.

I really wonder why as a fan I'm supposed to give a s@#% about this team anymore. I think it's pretty clear after the past few seasons that Kraft doesn't give a S@%* about the fans anymore! He's just trying to pay for Patriot place, and Brady's extension.

[QUOTE]This is the worst move of the Belichick era. Trading Randy Moss in NO WAY makes this team better. They have crippled this offense and now Welker wont have the year he has had in the past and people will say "Wes is a shell of his former self" which probably is untrue and the truth will be that with out Moss Welker just cant do the same things he used to. This was such a bad move. Fun fact for all of you, had Moss played out his contract and walked at the end of teh season the Pats would have been given a 3rd round compensatory pick so we just gave him away for nothing. Lynch got a 4th and a 6th and Moss got a 3rd....such a bad deal. And if you response is he was becoming a cancer then the answer is they should have f*cking paid him and he would have been happy.

Wrong Killa.  I also thought that.  Reiss pointed out that players with more than 10 accrued season can get no better than a 5th round pick.

Time will tell how good the move is, but when looking at the larger picture, BB usually proves us wrong.  Furthermore, as Reiss also points out, you don't trade your top receiver for a 3rd round pick without there being more to the story.

Re: Is the Pats F.O. retarded?

We're moving on! I for one like the front office. It has provided us with four trips to the Super Bowl in the last ten years and is retooling this team on the fly. Moss was not part of the future! Why can't people get it? The Pats are going back to running the ball using multiple TEs. We're going back to the future with high character, tough football players who "get it". Adalius Thomas and Moss did not get it. So we're moving on! I for one like the move. Give hard working hungry football players who give 100% day in day out. That's how you get a Super Bowl trophy! Our young players are starting to emerge. This is exciting! Out with the old in with the new. I think we'll be competitive this year and next years draft willnet us impact players on both sides of the ball. Who knows maybe Belichick is still not done wheeling and dealing. Perhaps he makes a deal with san Diego? Mankins for Jackson?

    4Adam13,

You forgot to put the "likely would have received a" in front of the "3rd rounder in the 2012 draft" from the sentence in that "balck and white" article you referenced. To be accurate you should have  copied the whole sentence. As in "I do not believe 3rd round compensation is sufficient, especially considering that the Patriots likely would have received a 3rd round compensatory selection for him in 2012." Do you write for the Globe or are you a politician or are you a statistician?

I certainly expect to pay a penalty for a couple of games while the other players adjust.  Does it cripple us for the whole season?  Only if Brady can't remember life before Moss.  He has as many or more weapons as he ever had prior to Moss.

Your point about the D is valid though.  Unless they play well consistently, our offense may need to win shootouts.  The old style Pats were not that type of team.

However, the old style offense will have the ball longer, and maybe help the D by not having them on the field all game.

Re: Is the Pats F.O. retarded?

They must have believed that Randy would not play nice for the rest of the year with the new look offense( 2 TE sets all day long)

Randy probably thought we were trying to prevent him from "Feeding his family". This trade in no way makes us a better team UNLESS Randy no longer wanted to be here. One thing is a guarantee, if Moss asked for A trade WE HAD TO TRADE HIM. We all know he could ruin the locker room if he wanted and after reading the story about how he moped around the fund raiser a few weeks ago, I think BB had enough.

With Brady I really think our O will be fine(except the run game scares me) He has enough weapons.

    Anyway.....a sad day.
