that makes a team pretty one dimensional on defense if they are just going to use adrian wilson to cover tight ends and running backs whenever he is on the field, sure he is going to do that, and sure jamie collins will too, but to think they dont need a linebacker who can cover is whats bogus in my opinion.
In response to anonymis' comment:
they do need help in pass coverage...all over the field.
Adrian Wilson automatically provides the coverage on tightends that Rodney used to provide, linebacker vs tightend/slot receiver is always a win for the offense, a safety has the range to make these plays and Wilson has the size to do what our recent safeties haven't, cover tightends.
We need to get sacks!!! We need to shrink the time opposing QB's have to pass against us. Pass coverage doesn't happen in a vacuum, coverage only works well when there is a pass rush element involved. The Patriots have been in the middle to bottom of the league in sacks for a long time now.
We wil have sacks, Jones, not a rook anymore will get at least 20-30 calls this year for the 100's of times he was actually held lat season..and will be healthy going into the season.
Armstead combined with Colins and Jones will be able to ovewhelm the matchups not to metion Hightower, Spikes, and Mayo if left alone were given the green light more at the end of last season.
How about the instincts of wilson at safty to time a great blitz? and in all of this don't forget Nink, who shown to be very astute at timing his few attempts to cause the most damage.
Think the pats have a critical mass now to rotate in and out to put maximum pressure on the pass blockers and exhaust some OL's.
Like to see one more big DL to punish the OL and help keep 'Fork fresh.
Then pray Jesse Williams keeps falling lol.
