    NFL STATEMENT CONCERNING INCIDENT INVOLVING
    JETS ASSISTANT COACH SAL ALOSI:

The New York Jets were notified today that the club has been fined $100,000 by Commissioner Roger Goodell for violating league rules in the recent incident involving Jets assistant coach Sal Alosi, who placed players in a prohibited area on the sideline to impede an opposing team’s special teams players and gain a competitive advantage. This is both a competitive violation as well as a dangerous tactic.

The discipline imposed on the club also includes the response to the incident of coach Alosi and special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff, who made public comments accusing other teams of employing similar tactics. Both the NFL Constitution and Bylaws and other league policies require clubs to report actual or suspected violations of competitive rules by other teams only to the league office and not to engage in public criticism of other clubs.

The fine has been imposed on the Jets to emphasize that clubs are accountable for the actions of their employees and have the obligation to ensure that all members of their organization comply with league rules.

call goodell @ nfl public relations #212-450-2000 and ask why the jests got away with a wave of the finger (not even a slap on the wrist) after they not only went out to hurt another player but, the patriots organization too. how about a drart pick and another 650,000...........

    Good point

    Peter King
Jets/Alosi got twice the fine of Favre. Not sure what that says, but the world stopped w/Favre fine. This will get 1/10th the coverage.

Yes, this makes perfect sense.  Filming from the wrong spot on the field (without a competitive advantage...Godell's words) is much more serious than tripping a player to gain an advantage and discrediting a team in public with no proof.  Absolutely....what a joke.

problem is goodell sent out a memo in the start of the year about filming, and the pats defied his memo, hence the bigger fine, it was kind of like your boss telling you no website acess outside of work related ones, then you get caught on boston.com....aint saying its right, just how it is

I'm not a 100% sure (old age, LOL) but it seems I remember something about a memo being sent out prior to what the Jets did also.

This is the NFL saying 'yeah, yeah, whatever.' And turning their back on it.

Pretty egregious act by a coach I must say, and deserving of more attention from the league.  It's not the lining up of the players, it's frickin purposely taking a player out of a play, if not injuring him, from the sideline.  From a leader on a team.

More proof positive of what a travesty it was for that village idiot Goodell to smack the Pats with a grossly unprecedented $750,000 in fines, and the loss of a #1 draft choice...because BB ignored a league directive and had the game taped from the wrong position on the field.

Mark my words...if Goodell isn't ousted, he'll ruin the sport.
