Jets Will Use Tebow as The Punt Protector? Are They TRYING? To Get this Guy Killed?

dont want to eb judgemenatl, but what are they thinking.... or are they thinking?
how much did you just pay for this guy?

guess all that money was for p.rr. and they could give a crap about him as a qb or professional.

seems like an agreement to cover elways @ss by destroying any possibility tebeow has qb success anywhere and thus preserving elway's rep and legacy as a gm/adm

he wont be THAT guy who got rid of tebow ("and look at what we coulda had"...if tebow had success elesewhere).

well, since he will be standing 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage, mebbe it's a possible pass or running play in a 4th and short yard situation....

plus, it's not like tebow weighs 125 lbs....

This is what happens when you make a move based around catering to fans and attempting to rebuild a locker room. This is exactly what the Sox have become too. The loons run the nut house and the owners are desperate to keep fan interest alive while putting a band-aid in the locker room and hoping it heals. This will most likely backfire on them like everything else

That's exactly what the reason is to have him back there.  It couldn't be more clear.  Can't believe so many people miss this thought.

    ^-- This.

Do people not know what the punt protector is?  He's not going to be taking the place of an O-lineman; he's going to be in prime position to take a snap on every single punt.  This will give opposing teams fits, always having to prepare for a fake punt regardless of situation.  It's a pretty brilliant move.

Having 1st round money Tebow as the back up QB to a flailing Mark Sanchez brilliant?  LOL!!!  Thank you I needed a laugh this morning...

Than I guess they're paying 1st round money for a punt protector, at least they're trying to get their monies worth because the guy ISN'T a Pro QB.

We will put Matthew Slater back there instead, he can probably execute a fake punt as well, can actually make special team's tackles, play WR and Safety in a pinch.

My point is that there is NOTHING brilliant about signing Tim Tebow, no upside at all.

There are still questions as to whether he has the "it" factor. The lovers will think he was the reason why Denver won some games, the haters will say it was the d that bailed him out. If he gets signficant playing time with the Jets - and they end up winning some games with him behind center - folks will have to revisit whether he has what it take so succeed in the NFL. At this point, he's probably making some good money just from endorsements, so.....

No question in my mind. He threw only 271 passes last year and could only complete 46% of them. There is no "it" factor, this is a production league. His teammates were very complimentary while he was on the Broncos and then they threw him under the bus once he was gone.

He's a great athlete and football player. I have to think any coach with a little sense could find a way to use him even if it's not at starting QB. It's been said the guy has the size/strength/speed to be a RB or a TE so why not put him out there for punts if he can do it.

I thought it was obvious. Not that it matters. It won't be the first time people have tried this. There's a reason why teams don't do it. It never works. Just chalk it up to another pathetic Jets move.

Tebow doesn't want to anything but a QB. RBs and TEs don't get air time to preach.

If you want to make the roster and you're a JAG, you need to play special teams.

Some credit.  The strategy does add a couple of yards to every punt, especially when punting on fourth and inches, but not so much on fourth and ten because you have a hollow threat.  The Jets do punt a lot because they need a real quarterback.  As a big heavy running QB, Tebow is perfect for the role.

How many million dollars a year for a special teams guy?

    nto a terrrible comparison.
    anonymis,
the point is every team they play will be running full speed with a free shot to try to knock out the backup qb/ red zone qb out of the game (ie kill him)

    no one misses that.
they may make some first downs.
they have a good shot at losing their qb. its a free shot.
maybe yo will have to see it to understrand.

there is a reason no one has a qb on the field for punts and kickoffs

teh defense was 1-5 without him at qb
hes not a great qb ... yet
he does make his teams win.
he wont get a chance with the jets to help them.
his career is being buried by elway (out of fear).

if he played in denver anothe year or 2, they might have made an afc championship game.

course with manning. if he stays healthy they may have a better chance at one in the short term, but not longterm

Nobody who is not blinded by Tebow mania would say that. The Pats kicked the hell out of Tebow twice as would all the good AFC teams had he come back to the Broncos as the starting QB this season. Tebow is not NFL QB material for a team that wants to win championships.

With a fake punt always a posibility someone will have to hit Tebow on every punt.

In Response to Re: Jets Will Use Tebow as The Punt Protector? Are They TRYING? To Get this Guy Killed? : Actually Doomass,  Brady kicked the L out of the Broncos.  Tebow ran for almost 100 yards in one game- AS A QB!  Who does that?  Shockingly, the Broncos ran the ball less and less as that game went on, just what you don't want.  And let's be honest ,that 8-8 Broncos team was just not very good and were hardly a true playoff team.  Once Brady had them down 14-0 in the first qtr on the way to his 350 yard day with a rating of about 140, it was over.  Something about Brady going up 14-0 early that directly influenced the fact that Tebow only had 5 carries.
    Posted by JetMangione

Poor angry little boy. You always amaze me that you can be so stupid and still be classified as human. Tebow ran for 100 yards because the Pats were playing with defensive schemes. In the playoff game he only had 5 carries because they killed him everytime he ran.

As for the Broncos not being a true playoff team....neither are the Jets so whats your point?

NY JETS 43 years and counting
