Yeah, Edelman is the guy I'm going to especially root for this year. He's my underdog pick. I hope he both makes the team and does good things with his opportunities. I don't have a shred of evidence to support my optimism. But hey, I'm a fan, I don't need any evidence... -

Here's your shred of evidence BB drafted him! -

Edelman reminds people a lot of Cribbs, the returner for the Browns. Also, they said he'd be a good Wildcat qb, but what about WR toss options? He would work great for those, just motion him over, toss him the ball, let him run, and pass if needed. -

All reports out of OTA's show Edelman catching everything in sight. Not the fastest (4.51 at his pro day), but maybe one of the quickest (excellent short and long shuttle #'s).Wes Welker back up?..... -

From all the info passed on by Mike Reiss about him they were working him out at WR and ST's during the OTA's and the mandatory Minicamp, has anyone looked to see what kind of passer was at Kent State? If he as quick as they say he is he'll make a great back up for Wes Welker. In either case if he can run plays like Cribbs, then there is a good chance he'll make the team. -

i'm also excited about edelman and what he could possibly do for the team as a specialist. and i like what carawaydj said. this is the time to get excited to see players we've never seen before. if i could go to a preseason practice i'm sure i would be looking for the projects like edelman and porter. its just exciting to imagine getting another steal. i have also read a couple of articles about him in the kent state newspaper, and its sounds like he's a good kid, very competative, and a great athlete. i think he has clocked some very good 40 times. so yeah he's raw and probably won't make much of an impact for 2 or 3 seasons, but i really hope he makes the team and i will be rooting hard for him whenever he gets on the field. -

I think he will be the main returner and hopefully wins 5th receiver over Aiken and Ortiz. Of course, if Tate is healthy, that will be a great competion for main return man. -

I think we all might be jumping teh gun just a little here. He might not even make the team where as Pat White will 100% make the Dolphins final roster. -

A receiver/returner/ emergency QB? like BB would allow him to leave the roster. -

Edelman plays safety too? I never heard about that. That makes him even more like Slater... -

I dont think Edelman Plays safety, we could probably ask him to, but that might be a little to much to ask this year, its hard enough learning one new position let alone 2 -

I'm excited to see this guy in training camp. His quickness is off the charts, on his pro day he ran the short shuttle so fast the scouts thought they had the wrong time, they asked him to run it again, and he actually ran it faster.
The DB's in rookie camp couldn't stay near him. He's also not afraid to lower his head http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMkGv-Om2fo
I know he hasn't even taken a hit in training camp, and it's way too early to get excited, but this is what we do in the offseason, and sometimes these guys pan out even better than expected. -

Edelman has an uphill battle just to make the final 53. He's not only making the jump from college to the NFL, but he's doing that with the Patriots (deep roster, complicated schemes) and learning a completely new position (WR) and being asked to learn, to some extent, two other positions (QB and RB). He'll have to show his value on Special Teams and will be competing with guys like Slater, Ventrone and Aiken.
If the "Wildcat" wasn't so popular (still not sure why it is), then Edelman would be a great practice squad candidate. Unfortunately, this year, he'd likely not clear waivers.
Even if he does make the team, you'll likely only see him on special teams and perhaps a rare "Wildcat" formation.
But I do hope he succeds in New England and proves to be better than Pat White. -

Very logical and cogent points. However, it is still nice to have a true underdog to root for (illogically, I know) in the hope that he makes the team. Such illogical wishes/hopes/dreams is what makes us fans.....humans.....both......LOL!!! -

Considering how bad of a QB White was at WV, he will likely only play WR and Wildcat QB. Unfortunately for him, though... He'll have recivers like Greg Camarillo to learn from, while Edelman will have Welker.
