    Just Wondering

Anybody know the average age of our defense....and the average age of nfl defenses?

Im just wondering how young our defense is relative to everyone else.

I think we're in the top 3, sorry but I don't have the official numbers.

I also know this is the youngest defense Belichick has coached in 16 years.

According to the above article, as of Sept 21, the Patriots' average age on defense was 25.754 years old, making them the 22nd oldest (11th youngest) defense in the league. By way of comparison, I also read something else recently that said the Patriots' defense is on average 4 years younger than the steelers defense.

I did not see the link as when posted.....Apologies

The team overall will get much younger when the offense releases or encourages retirement from players

Heard a stat on the radio right after the Moss trade that there were only four teams (not just defenses) younger in average age than the Pats at that point, but that was before they added Branch.

    Defense:

    Merriweather '07
    Mayo '08
    Spikes '10
    McCourty '10
    Cunningham '10
    Chung '09
    Brace '09
    Pryor '09
    Guyton '07
    Wilhite '08
    Butler '09

Looks like 6 solid starters and 5 solid depth guys none over the age of 25 on defense... Warren and Bodden (if back 100%) and Wilfork are just at that 30ish age w/ a few more highly effective years in them at least.

    Offense:

    Vollmer '09
    Gronkowski '10
    Edelman '09
    Hernandez '10
    BJGE '08
    Tate '09
    Woodhead (27 I think)
    Mankins '06
    Goskowski '06

5 solid starters (including kicker) and 4 solid reserves under age 27.

Then we have 6 picks in the 1st 4 round son the draft.

    Future looks VERY bright.

Tom can and intends on playing till age 40, I don't see him slowly down for at least 3-4 more seasons.
