A couple of things. Virtually impossible to restructure his cap hit in a reasonable sum. 2013 is already the lowest hit and it's at 10 million. These are QB-esque cap hits. Very unreasonable to tie up over 20% of the cap into two players.
Also, pay cuts generally don't happen. Tom Brady, who may want to win more than anybody, didn't necessarily take a pay cut. He restructured his contract with an extension that added more guarantees. I doubt we would want Larry past 2018. Raven hero Boldin even refused to take a pay cut, despite proclaiming his love for the franchise. Upper echelon players don't typically don't take pay cuts. I think the Union would be pretty unhappy if they did.
And even if he did decide to take a paycut, you still have to worry about using the Fax machine :)
Sorry, but a bunch of these Fitzgerald trade propositions make 0 sense. And even if the Pats did want to trade for him, he is not worth a crapload of top picks/players. He's a great player, but his contract is a salary cap nightmare. Those two pretty much cancel each other out.

Ye Gods, thanks for posting this. Glad I'm not the only who sees a trade for him as a virtual impossibility.

Totally agree that the dead money on this contract makes a trade impossible. AZ would totally be screwed.
Just want to point out that if Fitz were traded, the Cap Hit numbers you list would change significantly as that dead money would not travel with him. I believe 2013 -2015 would each be 5M less and 2016 would be 3M less.
