    Lawrence Maroney Will Step Up

    Maroney,

Has all of the talent in the world. We saw what he can do when he's healthy. Now it appears he's working of the mental side of the game. There are no runners in the NFL with Lawrence's intangibles. He's potentially more of a complete back than AP.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lawrence have a Pro Bowl caliber rest of the season and throughout the postseason. My predictions 4.8 ypc and 25 rec for 300 yds. If we see those numbers the Pats will be the Superbowl favorite.

He should be given shock therapy if he misses the hole. Dance gets a zap, hitting the hole gets a treat.

dx7, if nothing else I admire someone willing to put their wood on the chopping block and make a bold statement like that.  You're either a genius or a relative of Maroney's :^)

We heard so much about him finally stepping up that most fans have "broken promise fatigue" by now.  I'd love to see him finally do it.  BTW, where do you find pants that support the bowling balls you must have to make this prediction?

There is a precedent with Maroney.  He was fantastic in the second half of 2007 and the playoffs.

I have absolutely no idea what has happened to his ability to hit the hole since then, but this is his "make or break" time, and he knows it.  I hope he steps it up.

A great QB once said, "Talk is cheap".

Maroney is all talk, no walk. I don't know why he keeps making these bold statements about how he finally gets how to be an effective back in the NFL when he has to face a good defense that week. He's starting to remind me of a certain Steelers' player who talked about the greatest offense ever assembled, guess what happened? That guy got embarrassed. Learn to pick your battles, Maroney

Good comment, caraway. I'm a Pats fan, but I think Maroney is another Chad Jackson or Bethel Johnson.

Mahoney has got to be the best Running Back in the NFL at running his lips. Actually this may be the very break the Patriots needed (sorry Fred) to get Ben Jarvis Ellis Green Smith Jones Pecinpaw Mashizzle to get into the game and prove to be New Englands new back! This is working out nicely!

Hey Laurence, you need to stop wasting your time on Patriot message boards and get your nose in the playbook. This post sound like one of Scot Boras' comically delusional ramblings. Did you also compile a 350 page book detailing why Maroney will be the best back in the history of the game? I don't think even Boras could lay this stuff out there with a straight face.  And a more complete back than AP?  I don't even know what to say. For my own peace of mind I am going to assume that you are being completely sarcastic and meant this post as a joke. I mean you can't possibly be serious, right? Right?!!

Potentially more of a complete back than Adrian Peterson? Not even close. In 2007 when he "showed his potential" - it was usually because we were ahead by a gazilion points.

Morris ran for 138 yards against Denver last year. A player should get recognition for his work, not his mouth(Maroney)
    Of course Morris should start!
The only reson BB may start Maroney is this is Maroney's "make or break" year and BB wants to make sure he makes the right decision.
If Morris starts , it is a sign that BB has already given up on Maroney.

I don't know if I'd go as far as AP but he's still never shown us what he can do yet. Mike Shanahan said this guy was a one of the best backs he's ever seen (coming from him that's pretty good) and the patriots stole him.
I know what's he's done, I watch every game too and I'm just as frustrated with the dancing but I'm not throwing in the towel yet. I think this guy can still be a solid producer for this team.

Re: Lawrence Maroney Will Step Up

Maroney is not a starter! The way the Pats chose to start games sometimes pushes him into that role. We may very well start a game with the no huddle 2 minute offense. Who knows? That's just how BB roles. Remember Cory Dillion the fabric softner. Maroney is a change of pace back. He also may very well be more COMPLETE back than AP. AP comes off the field on passing downs. Which means running, catching, and blitz pick-up. He don't have the fumbles that AP has but he also don't have the yards, touches,or games when healthly. AP did'nt look so good with a hurt Hutchinson monday night.  I'll stop there as far as O-lines. But the kick-off returns are killing me. They have shown more with what's going on in the run game. That is a pure hit it situation that you can't stop your feet for. Sure it is your job to make 1 guy miss as numbers dictate that. But if you stop your feet to make the miss in the NFL someone else will be there. Also in  last sundays game Maroney got the boos for trying to cut it back inside. Just a few plays before he had tried to make it a race to the edge and lost yards. He tried so I'm not sure the boos in that situation were justified. But I can see why they are starting to happen. An I'm just fine with the BOO's! It's like the running up the score thing to me. It's the NFL! There all MEN! and according to my check book there all OVER PAYED!

So Scott Peoli and BB screwed the pooch when they picked him?

BB continues to stick with him why? He has talent, he just needs a kick in the a** to hit the hole and stop messing around laterally. As I posted a few days ago it doesn't hurt them to mix it up and keep a fresh back in there. Whoever is having the most success gets more carries throughout the game.

And give the ball to Edelman on kickoffs

Re: Lawrence Maroney Will Step Up

2006 and 2007 Maroney had 12 tds and over 1200 yards as a split time back.

He missed last year with a shoulder injury.

This year we have really only played him on opening drives.(since we had 4 healthy starting rbs and all)

The last time Maroney was relied upon to receive the bulk of the carries he delivered in a big way.(2007 season end)

If Maroney stays healthy then I agree he will lead this team in rushing yards this year, but with Faulk,Morris and BJGE he is not going to get 20 carries a game.

I suspect that to satisfy the haters Maroney will have to walk on water! You can't walk on water if your mother won't let you out of the house!

Also it seems most people on this board with any reason have all admitted that we really have not used Maroney to his strengths. Our offensive line is not a great run blocking line by any stretch of the imagination. We have relied on power guys like Dillion, Taylor and Morris to push for the extra 2 yards. Every time we have seen LM get the ball in space or take it to the outside he delivers. I think with more opportunuties LM will be effective.

Lets not hate a guy that we really have not relied on yet this year. Lets see what he can do given 15-20 touches. If we start to see consistent 3 yrd per carry #s and fumbles and missed assignments then we can have a better idea of who he is. Until then...

    Go Pats! Beat the Broncos!

It's easy to give up on him but the last I checked he's a New England Patriot so instead of giving up on him like a NY fan try getting behind him like BB is doing.

I hate to ever say anything about a guy like he appears thick, but Maroney even says it in his interviews. He has been here for years and says he does not read the plays correctly. He says he tries to run hard but runs into the O line, so he tries to miss the O line and dances - all the time not sure where the play calls for the hole to be. Maroney is fast and strong - great talent. I think he is dumb like bosportfan says. That is why BB keeps trying - if Maroney could get some confidence, relax and let the play come to him, he could be great. The same as AP? You have to be nuts - AP changes directions and accelerates like no-one.

"That is why BB keeps trying - if Maroney could get some confidence, relax and let the play come to him, he could be great."

It seems inconceivable that the pragmatic Belichick would "keep trying".
There's something else going on here which sends Maroney out on the field while Green-Ellis sits.
