Peyton - I missed the game but this is a very quick way to an 8-8 season. Even if it is preseason.

Yep Marv had much to do with the blocking ability of the o-line.  good point.

I might have been a bit hasty.  Sounds like the colts did not open with much of their starting o-line.  But I'll admit the optimism has been downgraded to cautious optimism.

Yep.  20 yards lost in 3 sacks, one pass completed for 6 yards in five pass attempts, one incompletion, and good night.  Indy scored 3 points over the entire game.

What's the problem? Peyton has been operating with one less sac since last pre-season. Colts' fans should see this as a boon.

Don't get too excited, Pat fans.  The Colts average less than one win per pre-season over the last six or seven years.  We Colt fans would be a little freaked out if the team DIDN'T look that way in the pre-season!  The reason?  Look at those that didn't play...the Vikes had one player on the roster who was ruled out of the game...the Colts had five starters on Offense and five starters on D ruled out.  Sounds like the OL just got a little more motivation.

Jules, relax.....wiser heads at bdc know very well that exhibition games' value is to: a/ see how your rookies and free agents are faring in terms of their learning curve of the team's playbook; b/ to try new things in an environment where the end results are meaningless in the w-l tables; and c/ to watch the "perils of pauline" struggle as the players who are "on the bubble" try to squeeze into the 53-man roster...so we know that Peyton being sacked 3 times this time of year means nothing (if it were the season opener, then....)....but you know how it is, some of the guys and gals on bdc just love to pick on Peyton....just like some non-Pats fans love to come over to snipe at BB....its an urge too strong to overcome....

No mention anywhere in this thread that it was the Vikes' starters.

    This was not an illusion.

The Vikings are in trouble this year because they don't have a quarterback, but that defensive front is ugly good.

Mike - Valid point.  The Vikes DL may be one of THE best in the NFL.  That said, if the colts are to be any good, they have to be able to play, at least adequately, against a front like this.  The 3 sacks regarless of what team did it, is not acceptable.

Are the Dolts even a threat to the Pats this year?  The Patriots have more threats in the AFC East.  Lets face it, the Colts just dont scare teams anymore.

Mike is right. If the Vikes used their starting DL and Colts had an injury riddled OL line (Ugoh out ? No Saturday or whatever), then, like most pre-season evaluations, there is insufficient data to accurately assess Manning performance . It is still the pre-season folks . I believe the Colts will face stiff competition from with the division (Titans, Texans), however, all is not lost because of no Harrison or Dungy. If I am Colts fan my concern would be how well the Colts ran the ball, after Addai had a sub-par year and the Colts drafted Brown, can the D line blitz effectively, and who on O and D appears to be making intelligent plays.  The difference between making or not making the playoffs is miniscule; you lose two close games and your team is out of the playoffs.

Well if we take the way they played Friday as an indication you may be right.   But don't be too sure of yourself just yet.  Colts winning 4 of last 5 against the pats doesn't exactly identify the pats as colts killers.

One Dave Thomas bad decision away from beating colts in Indy with cassel as our qb last year. Also would have secured a playoff spot. Thanks for that Thomas. Colts are done and never would have had a superbowl if it wasnt for the 80 yards of pass interference calls that put them on goal line in greatest comeback ever in 2006. Geatest afc championship comeback that is.

Bingo. They're irrelevant. Most likely out of the playoffs.
However, it should be amusing watching manning sulking and throwing his teammates under the bus.

Here is the thing, even with out haynsworth teh Titans have a good D line, the Texans have a very good D line, best in the AFC south if you ask me, and teh Jags always try and play a Pittsburgesk kind of football. So if the Colts have an issue with teh O line its a big issue. Mario Williams is no joke and he could have a break out year this year and if teh Colts cant block him it will be a tough year for them in that div.

turns out saturday caused one of the sacks - which will quickly be taken care of.  The other 2 came through an O-lineman playing RT who probably had no chance of making the team and Friday just solidified that.

    I feel better now.

Ok - now we are back to good.

The guy who gave up 2 sacks in the game was Corey Hilliard.  A 6th round pick of (you guessed it) your own NE Patriots in 2007.  He must have been giving those up for you boys and girls here just to make the colts look bad.  The patriot nation love extends far and wide, I guess.
