Mark Sanchez's contract has been extended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jets extend QB Sanchez's contract by 3 years

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets have extended quarterback Mark Sanchez's contract and dropped out of pursuing free agent Peyton Manning.

The team announced the extension for Sanchez in a conference call Friday night, and general manager Mike Tannenbaum says the Jets "looked at" going after Manning before deciding to stick with Sanchez.

Sanchez led the team to the AFC championship game as a wild card in his first two seasons, but struggled as the Jets lost their last three games in 2011 to finish 8-8 and out of the playoffs.

That led to speculation they would pursue Manning, who was released by the Colts on Wednesday

When you decide on a move like this you say, we are signing an average QB with the hopes that if he becomes more than that we'll get ourselves a deal. Of course he's not really average and will not ever be more than that. To win with a guy like this you need to have an excellent roster (and the Jets nearly did two years ago), personally I think it may of been easier to just get a real good QB than to try and make every other position good enough to hide the problems of Sanchez.

ROFL, and just when you thought they couldn't do anything stupider with their tiny cap space left they extend the QB that got into fits with his main WR. I mean seriously wow

once tha avenger's sources made it clear peyton wasnt going to the jets due to a clear personality conflict with the loudmouth ryan and had tons of options, what other choice did the jets have? give away the farm for anproven rook in rj3 like the skins? ryan has to win now and with what he knows. if jets lose next year due to peyton's presence in miami and the usual pats juggernaut, but sanchez proves to be flacco-like, ryan comes back regardless. they need each other, they are stuck together! ifsanchise regresses and jets stink, ryan willl be unemployed.

    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

Sanchez set the curve when he was tied with JaMarcus Russell as the worst quarterback in the NFL.  He got a little better, but he stayed right on pace by developing an incurable fear of being pressured.  This fear will probably never leave him and will forever be a big target painted on his game.  The Jets must forever compensate for his being a weak link.  Expect a lot of runs.

I consider Mike Swinging Genius Tannenbaum to be about the worst general manager in the league.  This signing really polishes Tannenbaum's reputation for whatever hall of fame inducts guys of dubious talents.
