Yesterday the screen was not a huge factor in the O plan. The Fins were probably expecting some screens so the staff went in a different direction. If the O line can open up some decent holes inside there's no reason to run screens.

RESPONSE: I wasn't  discussing the Miami game when I  stated that I would like to see Maroney be more involved in the offense, with screens and swing passes.  I think it would be an effective play to slow blitzing teams down.

It's not about bashing him or calling people out or calling him a stud or whatever names people want to come up with.  Its about giving credit where credit is due, and the FACT is he has played well since the injuries to the other backs. Do you think Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, etc. look good on every single running play?  No, they don't.   You can't simply blame Maroney when a run goes nowhere, but praise the line and everyone BUT Maroney when he has a good run.  Bad blocking = no running, no matter if your name is Laurence Maroney, Adrian Peterson, or Marion Butts.

An absolute ridiculous post!  One of two mediocre games and he's the next best thing to the very best RB- look away!  I'll offer you this- if he is, in fact, runningt at a 100+ clip 'till the end of the season, I'll eat crow.  However, every single Pats fan KNOWS this is not going to happen.  Rather, they wonder if the running game might be in tact by the playoffs. I am so sick of NE fans jumping on after a couple of half-way decent games- absolute insanity!

In Response to Re: Maroney is a stud! : I find it funny that when he gets "stuffed" as you say, Maroney has usually only gotten 4 or 5 carries in that game but when he picks up a lot of yards it is when he has been the featured back and gotten the bulk of the carries. It's also remarkable that when an opposing team has shut down the run entirely, that Tom Brady has gone on to have a big throwing game...  one hand washes the other.  Teams have to choose their poison, stop the run or stop the pass, some teams are good at one and not the other; every week is different.  Bill gave Laurence the majority of carries in London and the following week gave Law Firm his first substantial carries of the season. I and others have contended that Bill Belichick shelved Maroney in favor of Taylor and Morris to get through the early part of the schedule, using them up so Laurence is at full strength for the stretch run.  More importantly I don't think Bill cares about Maroney's stat line, in fact I'd say it's in his best interest to make him look like an underperformer until he finishes his rookie contract so we can sign him to a favorable deal in what would be his max deal. It's also funny that you've never heard Bill say anything negative about Maroney's performance but somehow the unforgiving fans of boston.com have more inside knowledge than he?  I say thank god the opinion of the lowest common denominator here have no bearing on the executive decisions of the PAT's brass... Again, when Maroney leads the PAT's in rushing into and through the playoffs I'm sure the naysayers here will be saying how Maroney is now "running with purpose" or that he has changed the way he plays, but nothing will have changed except the style of play, game planning and smash mouth, playoff type attitude of the entire team.  I'll be here, if you're a Maroney basher make sure you are as well...  I'm sure most of you will be doing some dancing of your own.

     One thing that is never be mentioned in Maroney conversations is that the guy doesn't fumble! Ask the Houston Texans how important that is?      Give Maroney a little running room, and chance to get up a head of steam...and he's a very effective RB. I wish that the Pats would employ him more often on screens and swing passes.
