In response to RockScully's comment:
The 1997 the 1998 Broncos falsified Elway and Davis's true salaries and cap hits, by deferring the money to later dates, without documenting it. Their excuse was that after decades of sell outs, somehow they were low on cash trying to finish building that new stadium. LOL.
Yeah, right. Born at night, not last night.
This allowed them to KEEP key FAs (Ray Crockett, Shannon Sharpe, etc, etc, etc), and literally sign the best FAs to help their weak spots (Neil Smith, Darien Gordon, etc).
They had a weak pass rush in 1996 when they lost to the Jaguars, so they somehow go out and unload the bank for Neil Smith? How convenient.
Hmmm.
Punishment? 100K and a 3rd rd pick in 2001 and 2002, with the media barely mentioning it and the general public not even having a clue about it.
So, really, what is more egregious? Cooking your books to gain an advantage in personnel in the cap era for 16 games per year? Or, some silly change in a video scouting rule that commissioner felt was so important to follow?
We all know what the reasons are as to why this happened. Jealousy, money and seflishness.
Think about it: 6 years later from when this story broke and it's been proven as a farce more so as time goes by, but the media and losers like Faulk still mention it as if it's a fact.
Why don't players from the PAckers in 1997 or the Falcons from 1998 publicly complain about Denver blatantly cheating in those years?
Two reasons: Denver was't very good anymore in 2001 and 2002. And, no one is insanely jealous of Mike Shanahan like they are with BB.
Good post, maybe Tedy should mention this to Mark Schlereth on espn.
