Re: Merriman Soon To Be Traded?

The Chargers is the worst Owner run team in the league.  The Spanos family make money based personnel decisions, using surrogates, & when those decisions don't work out, it's always someone else's fault.

Want to know why Jr. will only answer the call for BB?  Spanos family.

After their superbowl loss, Spanos got the city to guaranty the stadium would be full, by the city paying for the empty seats.  Once the deal was inked, they started dumping the higher salaried players who'd got them to the Superbowl.  The dismantled the O line & QB Stan Humphries was hit too many times, ending his career early.

When Kellen Winslow, arguably the best tight end of that time, got injured, he had a guarantied contract. He'd get paid the same playing or not.  Winslow wanted to play, worked hard to recover, they made him show up  rookie training camp to see if he would "qualify" to make the team.  He's a Hall of Fame receiver voted in on his 1st ballot, set numerous records, Charger's never retired his number, & wouldn't put him into their Charger Hall of fame for decades.

After the Superbowl year & all the trades, they publicly placed the blame for seasons records on head coach Bobby Bethard, rather than the front office.  So they dumped him.

Just as they did years earlier with Don Coreyl when they traded away all of the key players from his record breaking years with Don Fouts.

    The same thing with Marty.

Does Merriman hate the pats, as an opponent, definitely.

Could he end up hating the Spanos more?  You betcha.  Could that make him want revenge?  You betcha.  Would joining the Pats give him that opportunity at playoff time?  You got to think so.

Personally, I'd pass on him.  He's a selfish player, more concerned with his own glory than the team concept.  He should have had the surgery a year earlier, but thought he'd play because he wanted a ring.  He hurt the team that year.

Re: Merriman Soon To Be Traded?

There is no way the Bolts would trade anything to the Pats. They hate the Pats more than the Steelers do. The Bolts really have had the talent to win Super Bowls especially the year the NFL gave the Colts a title. They were by far the best team in the AFC and Schottenheimer's conservative play calling killed them. I loved watching Rosie Colvin doing the lights out at mid-field while LT whined in typical losing to the Pats fashion. No way Merriman comes here any way other than free agency. The Bolts still have a chance to win the division. The Broncos are a fraud team that has benefitted from playing even more fraudulant teams. Remember, the Chargers got into the playoffs with an 8-8 record last year and trailed Denver at about the same point in the season. They will make the playoffs this year. There is no shame in losing to Baltimore or Pittsburgh.

    "DT Shaun Rogers from CLEVELAND"

Only if Cleveland holds a clearance sale ( a possibility ).
If we had him, we would instantly become the best defense in the NFL.

In Response to Merriman Soon To Be Traded? : Tex: You could just read my take instead.   With the 1st & 2nd string NT out for the year, that has to be addressed now. Nwagbuo & Boone - brought in off the street after game 1- are not the answer.  What I would do: The Bolts offense can score with anybody. We have two backup receivers [Malcolm Floyd & Legadu Naanee] who could start on most teams. Package up Floyd or Naanee or under achieving Chris Chambers and a draft pick to  JAX for John Henderson or Marcus Stroud from Buffalo.

RESPONSE: Come now, Bolt. Lets' get real. They want to rid themselves of Merriman. But, everyone knows that Merriman has become an underachieving head case. The guy is an accident waiting to happen. Best bet? Try trading him to the 'Skins or Cowboys, who are dumb and desparate. Or, theres' always the Jets. They are desparate to win now, and may overpay.

Both BUF [with a TO problem] and JAX [need a wideout], this would benefit both teams involved. Something has to be done right away, to be sure. Or they could ship Merriman off to DET if Smith gets his way. Merriman in his last year, is gone for sure IMO.

RESPONSE: Why would ever-rebuilding Detroit want Merriman?

I'll take a trade for Chris Chambers rather than Shawne Merriman. Chris was a beast at Miami, now he's mediocore. A good player for the 3rd WR.

He either want's to be traded or he's a complete idiot. Even if he was healthy and playing at the top of his game he's an employee that basically just told his boss his opinion didn't matter. One of them has to go just to keep the rest of the team in line. I wouldn't tolerate it and stupid comments like that hurt him becoming part of another team.

Over time selfish guys like this who put themselves first always surface.

Re: Merriman Soon To Be Traded?

Id be fine with it its a win win situation if we get something out of him Great if we dont we just let him go at the end of the year, we could really use a pass rusher i dont care what it says on the back of the jersey as long as he can rush the passer... you guys have gotten too caught up what happened in the past, frankly i dont think merriman would mind coming here to perhaps get a ring.. also the guy is like second in the most sacks in the last 3-4 years.. so bring him in if the price is right..

    Tex:
It's clear that your perspective on Merriman is biased. Dual ACL & MCL tears take awhile to come back from, especially when your game is based on a burst of speed, not the arm. When healthy Merriman is the best pass rusher in the league. He is not healthy still. Everybody hates guys on other teams that are outspoken, but, when they're on your team, if they can play sometimes they can change the outcome of the game in your favor.
As far Detroit, just kidding. There is nobody on that roster that I'd want here. AJ would do it to spite #56.

    Who wants Merriman?

He hasn't been able to play since he came off the steroids.  Just like every other juice head who stops using, his joints fall apart and he loses a step.  Actually, it would be more correct to say he went back to his acutal ability.

San Diego has never been that good.  They have had a couple of decent seasons, but they have mostly benefitted from playing in the leagues worst division.  Any NFL team, no matter how bad their record is, has the ability to rise to the occasion and win a playoff game or two.  It's really a  roll of the dice once you hit the post season.

Put San Diego in the east and they are a losing team for 4 of the last 6 seasons.

As the pats are continually trying to get younger

I dont see any possibility of signing a Merriman. Especially since he is not the "lights out " merriman we once knew, and he probably never will be again .

Cowboys seem like the most likely landing spot to me. They need someone to alleviate the coverage on dware and merriman could at the very least, do that

not to mention he has played for wade before

RESPONSE: Biased?? Bias has nothing to do with my opinion on ol' Lights Out.  Its' based in fact. Heres' a guy whose coming off a severe knee injury in his contract season. You would think that he would be dedicating himself to regaining his form. But no...the guy gets involved in the embarrassing Tequila episode...and complains when called out for playing soft. After all you and I have as many sacks this year as Merriman.

Dual ACL & MCL tears take awhile to come back from, especially when your game is based on a burst of speed, not the arm. When healthy Merriman is the best pass rusher in the league. He is not healthy still.

RESPONSE: There may be some truth to that. But, his actions on and off the field do not show a commitment to excellence (if you pardon the Raider lingo)...or even a commitment to mediocrity.

Everybody hates guys on other teams that are outspoken, but, when they're on your team, if they can play sometimes they can change the outcome of the game in your favor.

RESPONSE: Please explain what being a loud mouth has to do with changing the outcome of a game? Hard, determined effort does that...not talk.

Whatever.  This team was a waste of people ever since Norv took over.  But then, same with his LAST team.  3 guys who take a good team and run it into the ground: Norv, as noted here and with the Redskins-  Wade Phillips- See Cowboys, Dallas and Bills, Buffalo- and speaking of Buffalo, Dick Jauron, both in Buffalo and with Chicago.  Dave Wannestadt is an also ran.  All timid, mild, fraidy cats who punt on their own side of the field.  I would love to see Romeo get another shot, but I dont think he will.  I'm happy that Merriman is acting up.  Good, waste ANOTHER year guys.  Way to go.  Waiting for the J-E-T-S to slide so Rex can see how fast NY goes sour on a guy.

In Response to Re: Merriman Soon To Be Traded?:
I can't believe that they won't switch coaches.  They've squandered years of talent on Marty Schottenheimer and Norv Turner, two of the worst playoff coaches in the history of the NFL. With Cowher, Shanahan, Holmgren, and Gruden all available, I can't believe that San Diego isn't mentioned as a potential landing spot despite underperforming for the past 5 years.  This team should have won a Super Bowl at some point with the talent they have.  I don't think it's the players that have developed the culture of playing "soft." And good point - I think if they traded Merriman to the Pats, it would be a definite sign that they've gone into a rebuilding phase.

Holmgren will wind up in Oakland for the Bay Area Discount,
Would be a perfect fit if AL would spend the dough.
