Mike Wright: Worse Than We Thought?

    http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4690663/revisiting-dl-wright-injury-status

I'll also add some additional commentary on this. I was able to go in the locker room after the Colts game (through Matt Light) and as soon as I entered the tunnel into the locker room, I saw Mike Wright crying and hugging Belichick. Right then, I knew it was serious because I don't think a player hugs a coach and cries if it's a minor injury. He was in street clothes already and wearing a backpack. I couldn't hear/learn anything more because, as funny as it sounds, Matt said Coach doesn't like people waiting around his office. So I moved away.

I'm really hoping we get this guy back though but it looks like there's no real timetable on anything and I trust the Pats to be cautious if they feel it's necessary. It'd be a shot in the arm, though, to have Wright going after the QB for the two games at Gillette. He'd definitely be "fresh." If not, I'd hope he could use the bye between the AFC title game and the Super Bowl to get it together.

Yeah, I was just reading this and shocked. I remember when he went out and it didn't look like anything serious. I hope he's back for the playoffs...We need him.

it's weird, because they haven't put him on IR, but sadly there doesn't seem to be a lot of encouraging news about him at all

I hope it's just a smokescreen and Bill just being Bill but I get a really bad vibe here. If it's one of those pinched nerve issues, along with a concussion,  he's out for the season but the team is being optimistic. I know Todd Heap had that combo and the Ravens let him play the very next game. If you guys remember, he stood up and just fell to the ground even though nobody touched him...

Re: Mike Wright: Worse Than We Thought?

I agree with the IR thing. I don't see why they'd not IR him if it was definitively a "no" at this point.

No news is good news and maybe just another 2 weeks of rest can get him past where he is.

Cross your fingers, because they will need him.

As long as he doesn't go on the IR, you'd have to think they feel he's close.

I also think you are being too negative here. BB has repeated twice now that Wright was improving.

    As of 12/20:

"Oh, and in other random news, Belichick said DL Mike Wright (concussion) is “improving.” No time table, though…"

    http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/rap_sheet/index.php/2010/12/20/a-day-later-patriots-coach-bill-belichick-breaks-down-the-last-second-win-over-the-packers-and-loves-the-play-of-wilfork/

My gut tells me BB knew he could not IR Wright and get away with subs in for him down the stretch against the schedule (Buff and Miami), etc, and just give him as much time for the divisional playoff weekend.

BB, not trying to be too negative here. You should know by now that I'm normally an optimistic poster.

With these head injuries, it's always a week by week thing. It's likely he had a good week or two and then had a bad week. No?

Killa, I helped Matt with some charity work and since I was coming to Boston (from Atlanta) for the Pats/Colts game, he said I could come on the field and in the locker after the game. I went down there after the game and it was cool seeing Belichick throw on some jeans and play lacrosse with one of his buddies. I think Reiss tweeted about that after the game too (I could be wrong). I went into the tunnel and saw Mike Wright there with Belichick. I saw Aaron Hernandez with his girlfriend, Stephen Neal sitting a kid down to feed him (not sure if it was his kid or not). Then, in a separate room, I met Brady and Welker. Saw Giselle there and Benjamin Brady too (kid just runs around in his dad's jersey). Got some pics, autographs, and a few words with Wes and Tom (mostly about their charitable work and Wes' knee). I met Tom Brady Sr. as well and Bill's wife.

This is a picture of the sign you see when you enter from the player's parking lot (which is where we left the building since that's where Matt had parked)

Haha, thanks. It's not like I cure cancer or anything :). It was a cool moment though. I'll get to do this every year so if you guys live around Boston, we could arrange something for you guys to come in as well. He told me I could bring a few (CIVILIZED!!!!!!!!) buddies.

    From the report:

"Colts left guard Kyle DeVan looked like he got his right hand up under Wright's helmet. Wright immediately fell to the ground, face first."

I miss Wright, he was force this season. His injury is such a mystery.

So did he really get punched in the jaw? I can't see his hand going under the back of the helmet.

I hope he gets well soon, and can make it to the playoffs.

Sometimes those injuries are the strangest ones. Rememebr how Sterling Sharpe's career ended?

He engaged in a simple block and dropped to the ground for good.

It was bizarre. Now we have to deal with his yap on NFL Network.

The fact that they haven't placed Wright on IR is encouraging. There must be some good news from the doctors that keeps BB from placing him on IR.

Like I could call him or Brady through their reps but I wouldn't just because I've always considered athletes in general just normal people. They bleed, they breathe oxygen, and they have personal lives they value. Like when I met Brady, he immediately noticed that I didn't talk about his money, his stats, or his wife. Nothing personal in nature. I told him I respected, more than anything else he'll ever do, his work with Best Buddies. I have an aunt with Down Syndrome so I'll always admire him most for that (I did add "getting more rings than Montana and Manning combined wouldn't hurt either"). I got one thing signed and one photo. I don't want anything else from those guys. Maybe we'll collaborate on some nonprofit work down the road but it won't be anything for myself, personally. Respect their personal privacy and they don't consider you just a fan, you know?

You would be arrested if you commented on someone's wife.

You might be able to rip a bing bong or two with Hernandez and BJGE, but commenting on Linda Holiday will get you escorted out to the south entrance.

Hate to say it, but you might be right.  This is more than a concussion.  From what I've been reading, he hasn't even been in the locker room.
Then again, if he does come back, how will he do after being out two months?
    Hope I'm wrong too.
