    Minnesota Vikings Want Outdoor Stadium

The stadium battle in Minnesota appears to be over...with the Vikings getting a new stadium. The next question is, will it be an indoor or outdoor facility? Minnesota politicians want an indoor facility, which they argue could be used year-round, for various events...and thus be a greater boon to the community. But, Vikings' owner Ziggy Wolf wants an outdoor stadium...so much so that he's offered to put up a third of the money needed to build one: http://thevikingage.com/2011/01/12/vikings-push-for-outdoor-stadium/

I like the idea of outdoor Vik's games. Think about the huge advantage they would have come winter against warm weather teams.

Yeah, from a team standpoint, an outdoor stadium for them would give them a huge homefield advantage. Of course with a dome you also have the noise factor and don't have to worry about weather affecting your own players. Which it shouldn't if your coaches prepare them for it like BB and company do.

Good, indoor stadiums should be banned. I hate them. Detroit should man up and play outside too!

Football should be played in the mud, rain, and snow.  You should not be able to read the names or numbers on the players' jerseys by the end of the game.

The outdoor stadium would give them a better home field advantage. Those January playoff games in Foxboro have helped us against warm weather and domed  teams over the past 10 years.

Re: Minnesota Vikings Want Outdoor Stadium

I too would like to see all outdoor stadiums.  However, I think it's unlikely to happen in MN.  Once cold-weather fans get used to sitting in comfort, getting them to switch back is difficult.  Wouldn't this be the first cold-weather NFL city to go from dome to outdoors?  Seattle doesn't count. Seattle is not nearly as cold as other nothern cities.  I know the Twins (baseball) moved outside but they don't play past early October.
It's one thing to sit outdoors in winter for a winning team, but even in NE the crowds get thin when the team isn't winning.  You gotta sell those season tickets and the premium seats won't feel premium if the product on the field isn't up to par.  Imagine what the attendance would have been in MN or IN last year with outdoor stadiums at the end of the season.

    Outdoor = SuperBowls
Indoor = Price concerts and Home shows.

I like the outdoor/indoor combination stadium. But an outdoor in Dec and Jan does help against indoor teams.

Bud Grant is coming back as HC, if the stadium is outdoors.  He's still got a crew-cut and he's still p*-off.

If you're an older fan, you never got used to seeing the Viking (get it? The Vicing, as in Norse People, from near the North Pole, in furs and horned helmets) play in a dome. Disgusting.

Call yourself Vikings? Play outside like the old Purple did with Fran Tarkenton.

Cold weather games are part of football lore and character. Bring it back.

I've never understood why northern teams don't do that more. Remember how horrific it was to go to Orchard Park in Buffalo during the early nineties? They almost never lost a home game back then, one of the most intimidating venues ever when combined with that team.

A dome kept the Patriots from making the playoffs in 2008. We needed Miami to lose one of their final four games. So, when they had to play at Buffalo in December, where they had lost their previous four games, the chances were good. One problem, they weren't playing in Buffalo, they were playing at Rogers Centre in Toronto, a domed stadium. Needless to say, the Dolphins won that game and their next three and made the playoffs, knocking NE out in the process.

In other words, he'll let the taxpayers pay 2/3 of the cost of a stadium that isn't good for much else than his NFL football team. If the taxpayers want to build something that actually might be more useful for the community, then he won't pay for it?

Where's your post on the greed of the owners?  Or is it only retired players with brain damage that get you riled up?

All the whining about government spending in Minn but they'll spend 1/2 billion dollars to build a stadium for a rich guy's football team.

I think the best choice would be a convertable top stadium. Why not build something that can be used year round?
