My 53 Man Roster as of Today

    QB- Brady, Grop, Mallet

RB- Ridley, Vareen, White, Bolden, Finch

    FB- Develin

TE- Gronk, Hooman, Develin(Dev is defacto 3rd TE plus Solder/Vollmer practicing there in case of emergency)

WR- Edleman, Amendola, Thompkins, Lafell, Dobson, Boyce(replaces browner)

O-line - Solder, Mankins, Connolly, Cannon, Vollmer, Kline, Halapio, Fleming, Stork

D-Line- Wilfork, Kelly, Siliga, C.Jones, Easley, Worthy, Ch.Jones, Nink, Buchanan

Backers - Mayo, Hightower, Collins, Anderson, Fleming, Beaharnis(sp)

CB - Revis, Browner, Dennard, Ryan, Arrington, Butler

S - McCourty, Harmon, Chung, K.Davis - this is thin due to Ryan/Arrington being options here

Specialist - Ghost, Allen, Slater, Aiken

     Practice Squad - J.Thomas, D.Swanson, J.Devey, C.Gordon, E.Manumaleuna, T.McCuller, Z.Moore, C.Barker, W.Van Hooser, J.Gray

I think thats 53. Subject to a few changes but this is how I feel as of today.

*I have Tyms coming back after week 4 if we have injury to WR corps.

*Tough choice between Finch/Boyce but I feel Finch has shown a lot in limited reps, is explosive and maybe our fastest back. With Vareens injury history and White not lighting up preseason, Finch has to stick.

*Not sure what happens when Browner returns but if no CB injury, I have Finch going to p/s and them cutting someone there.

*If Pats decide to release Mallet, Boyce may be in.

Edit: I am removing Browner as he doesnt count until week 5. This gives Boyce/Finch/Bolden a few more weeks to show what they got. I was thinking of adding a CB but I will give Boyce the nod. The Pats will have to hope for no injuries as they will be a little thin until Browner returns.

Browner and Tyms don't count against the 53 I believe.  So that should allow a little more flexibility for the first 4 weeks of the season.

I think J Devey makes the opening day roster. Still not sold on the Pats carrying 3 QBs. Ridley gets traded or cut outright.

Could be, I havent seen enough of Devey as I have Fleming.

re: QBs, I didnt think they would either but history shows whenever BB drafts a rookie, he carries 3?, could be wrong.

Have a hard time seeing Rids get cut. Vareen hasnt stayed healthy and White has not impressed in games yet as he has in camp and that may be due to our D Line being weak at the moment. Thats why I have Finch making it because of vareens health issues and the fact White has been talked up here but hasnt shown up in preseason yet. He is not ready to take over for Ridley and is more of a changeup playing behind Vareen/Ridley at this stage IMO

Your logic is indeed rock solid. I am actually a big Ridley supporter. I have been hoping he would get himself together but I'm starting to feel the clock is going to strike midnight on him.

With injuries being a fact of life in the NFL every roster position is gold. Very hard holding 3 spots in today's league.

Devey plays multiple spots and has played very well. he just looks like a keeper.

Tripleog that looks like a pretty good projection. I would have to agree with most everything you have stated. Only two possible changes; devry at OL and Jonas at RB. Like them both but not sure who would be cut. I agree that Bolden makes it and hope Boyce does as well. Glad to see you got worthy on your list! I think he and Easley will cause havoc this year. Again, very nice job.

For the most part I agree. I made the changes in Red

    QB- Brady, Grop, Mallet

RB- Ridley, Vareen, White, Bolden, Finch

I see them only carrying 4 RB's with Devlin as your 5th and replacement power back. With Gray making the PS it was an easy choice to cut Bolden

    FB- Develin

    TE- Gronk, Hooman

WR- Edleman, Amendola, Thompkins, Lafell, Dobson, Boyce, Slater

O-line - Solder, Mankins, Connolly, Cannon, Vollmer, Kline, Halapio, Fleming, Stork

D-Line- Wilfork, Kelly, Siliga, C.Jones, Easley, Worthy, Ch.Jones, Nink, Buchanan, Smith, Moore

To me Smith has shown some ability while Buchanan struggles with the same issues as last year. Mainly control the edge and also a lack of rushing moves. Moore has a lot of upside so you can't quit on the kid after a single camp

Backers - Mayo, Hightower, Collins, Anderson, Fleming, Beaharnis(sp)

CB - Revis, Dennard, Ryan, Arrington, Butler

S - McCourty, Harmon, Chung, K.Davis, Wilson, Ebner

Wilson hasn't shown a ton he's still more solid than Davis at this point and Ebner gives a lot on STs but he's on a short list of TBC once Browner and Tyms gets back

    Specialist - Ghost, Allen, Aiken

Week 5 returns - Browner, Tyms

    Trust me, I'm an engineer!

Yea im back and forth on Bolden. Depending on how fridays game pans out, he may be off by Saturday in favor of someone. White showing more in preseason would def. have made Bolden expendable, but he is alive for now with that good run last week.

Moore, we both agree has enough potential to stick. I have him on the p/s instead of active roster, thats all. I think with the extra D lineman you have, we are going 5 deep at LB and that seems a bit thin and I hope I am wrong about W.Smith and he shows more on Friday.

I have K.Davis over T.Wilson as he is an integral part of our s/t and Wilson  hasnt distanced himself yet despite being here the longest. They drafted Davis as a specialist who probably wont play in the reg. D but he is a better special teamer than Wilson. I honestly think Wilson would have been cut long ago but BB wanted to give him every chance to shed that bust label. He didnt even make tackles on s/t last year despite that being his only job. Here is a nice piece on Davis

Not bad. But I think Ebner makes this team.

ALSO - I really disagree about White (RB). OK he is not "lighting it up" but he is NOT that kind of back. As I have mentioned - and I think some sports writers probably - he is more like a Kevin Faulk. And Faulk was a VERY important player though he was neither a "starter" nor a guy who "lit it up". But a critical player.

It is missing the value of guys like Faulk that indicate that many people are so enamored of fantasy football that they confuse it with the real thing. THough I do think the NFL is starting a major downward spiral directly because of fantasy football money.

    FS (2) Chung, McCourty

    Total players: 53

Browner, Tyms back on after suspensions.  Wait see who will be cut then.

The day after final cut down day is always interesting too, because there always seems to be one or two guys cut from other teams who end up on our roster.  Which means the likelihood is that one or two players who will be on the roster for the first game are right now on some other team's roster.

I am not infatuated with Chung. The Pats are McCourty, a trio of failed 2nd round draft choices and a non defensive player ( Ebner) at S.

From what I have seen so far this summer, Chung has outplayed the rest, and Harmon has failed to impress

    Thats not infatuation. Thats settling

Understand you weren't singling me out. i was simply commenting on the 53.

I think chances are good that BB doesn't settle and goes with a deeper group of CB's

I can see however in a game plan specific game against say the Bills, Jets, Raiders or Bengals....the Pats would defend to stop the run first. In that case, I prefer Ching at SS over the other candidates
