Slater listed as a WR is an insult to WR's.  I won't be shocked if he gets cut this year.  The longevity of the Special Teams Ace is short and he adds negative valve as a WR.

Obviously he isn't a WR. Here for ST only.

I do agree he adds negative WR value though, but BB loves his leadership and ST so I don't see him being cut unless he thinks Tavon Wilson could fill the slater role which is possible

Nice job Joe. Only "disagreement" is I don't see the Pats carrying 7 WR's even including Slater. They broke camp with only 4 two years ago.

I know many here think Slater is a wasted spot but whether you agree with BB or not the fact is he has always placed a great emphasis on the ST units. Based on the way he has built his teams in the past I would expect Slater and Ebner if healthy to be on the 53 man roster.

I agree. I do think that Jemea Thomas could make Ebner expendable if he can play ST and know what he's doing as a backup DB.. We shall see

Yeah, 7 is a high number but I also only have 2 TE making it. In 2012 when they only carried four WRs they had 3-4 TEs on the roster as well.

Good Post and projections. I would argue that 7 WRs are too many. Slater is a specialist who is also on PUP for who knows what. He could be put on the real pup for 6 weeks. Dobson may as well depending on his progressions. This bode wells for the depth players like Boyce who I had on the bubble.(I know, its early). I just feel that if Boyce has promise but has players in front of him, BB may I/R/ him. He wont stick on p/s and is not worth a game day spot yet until I see it on the field.

Slater is the best special teams gunner in the NFL,  he is the lead blocker/up man on kick returns, he is our special teams Captain.  I know some here believe the players on our bench should all be All Pro back ups but somebody has to play special teams; it's important believe it or not.

Maybe not Ebner, I think Ebner might have to show something more than T. Wilson as a S but I think it will boil down to either T. Wilson or Ebner and their main role will be as STers 1st and S's 2nd.

As for Slater I agree 100%. Every year people think he's going to get cut and I don't see why. He's one of the best STers in the league and we know how BB loves STers. I don't mind giving a couple spots to pure STers (esp of Slater's capabilities) but I do think sometimes BB focuses too much on ST's when he has 4-6 players you could argue are almost pure STers on the team (not including P, K, LS obviously).

Your projection leaves them a little thin at LB, no?

Don't get me wrong, I love Slater.  What I'm saying is gunners age in doggie years with the abuse their bodies take.  He's going to be 29 this season so I wouldn't be shocked if a younger stud takes his place (Ebner).

5 LBs. Mayo, Collins, Hightower, Anderson and Beauhan... is good

The team uses nickel more than 50% of the time so there will mostly be only 2 out there anyway

    Beauh- LB depth and ST

Fleming- I doubt they will cut a 4th round pick in his first season

Moore- there's a reason they drafted some nobody here. Shot in the dark. I wouldn't doubt him being better than Bequette and DE depth is always good to have

Something I don't get about Slater is why can't he play another position? He's fast, tough, instinctive, a solid and willing tackler. After all these years, he can't play safety or corner in a pinch? Troy Brown and Edelman can, but he can't? It doesn't make sense.

Slater will def be over Ebner.

I think Thomas can make Ebner on the bubble if Thomas can do ST and backup DB better than Ebner which wont be hard on the DB part

They tried him everywhere, IMO he looked best at safety.  But they stopped using him, probably because it wore him down or he was less effective on special teams.  He plays on every ST unit, he blocks, he tackles, he calls the plays.

Something I don't get is how the Chris Whites of the world get a pass and Slater who makes practically every special team's tackle gets cut from many posters preseason depth charts? If another Aiken brother gets a roster spot and a fully functioning center like Braxston Cave gets cut my head will explode.

Looks about right.   The only thing I can see changing is he deals Mallett in preseason and they just keep thr 2 QBs if Garropollo looks ready to go as a back up.

    Good work, Joe.

    Thanks..

I could also see that happening if a team gets desperate for a QB.

I wouldn't even mind seeing Jimmy G step up and earn the backup role and they just flat out cut Mallet to kepp depth at other spots.

I see 6 WRs and 3 TEs, third TE either Williams, Watson or Jones.  Gronk off injury, third guy is needed. Also, I'm guessing Connolly or Cave over Wendell, more versatile.

yes thinking about it Connolly over Wendell makes more sense because of the versatility.

There's also the chance both are gone too if the young guns step up. We shall see.

Also, I just don't see Watson, Jones or Williams being good enough to earn a roster spot. Any of them would turn into another Sudfeld...
