not letting ridley play may have been a huge mistake....they couldnt get the running game going with the exception of one benny run to the outside...they have the talent to be a good running team, but bill really let his ego get in the way of this one....giants are probobaly thrilled they didnt have to face a back as explosive as ridley

It should have been 70% BJGE, 15% Woodhead, 15% Ridley with Ridley simply spelling BJGE for a breather. The second they pull BJGE off is when the D can hone in with how we use Woodhead. Same thing last January vs the Jets. If they had done this, we win the SB. 41 passes to 17 runs?  Not even remotely close to balanced, but "playcalling is not a problem and running isn't an option". LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    bingo.

thought they would have learned from that game 4 years ago, but they didnt. they won the game two weeks ago because they ran the ball effectively and the defense kept them in the game.

Instead of admitting "our lone problem is Brady and a desire to try to throw to a SB", we have people acting like they're lining up for the short bus. M

Our lone problem is Brady?  And you're calling other people morons?

Did you watch him call 41 pass plays to 17 total runs and throw an INT? I did. He threw a pick in NY territory on first down to a gimpy TE.  Case closed. Yes. Until Tom Brady is the Brady of old in those SBs, he's currently our biggest problem not realizing 40+ pass attempts = LOSS. Every time.
    Posted by RustyGriswold

You gotta talk to BB and tell him the magic numbers (20 carries for BJGE, less than 40 throws for Brady). Maybe you can give him his lottery picks too.

What we really need are receiver's that can actually catch the f**king ball on the biggest stage, at the biggest moment.  Not the final gag job that we got.

Dear Draft Santa:  We were good this year, but not quite good enough.
    Please bring us

1 Speed wide receiver- Super fast, shifty, and did I mention scary fast?
1 Big possession receiver - Like Brandon Marshall
3 Defensive backs- Cromartie types, please.  Jump ball guys.
2 Angry Defensive Ends.  Speed, power, attitude
    1 Outside linebacker.

I know that is a lot.  If you cant do it all, please start at the top, and get as far down the list as you can.  I liked one of my presents last year, but I really enjoyed what you brought two years ago.  Let's have another year like that!

    Thanks.

I prefer a big receiver like Megatron. Brandon Marshall is notorious for drops in crucial situations.

I agree with this post.  There is something wrong with a team that cannot run the ball from their 3 yard line and takes a safety! Looking at the current personnel: Offense: QB - one of the best in the league and a 3rd round backup.  Trade Hoyer RB - time to see the new rookies play.   BJGE is not the answer.  Faulk will be retired WR.  Keep Welker, Edelman and Chad.  Free agent pickup to fill the deep threat TE  All set there! OL  young crop of draft picks seem to be filling in nicely.   Need a center Defense: DL -  after Wilfork everything is iffy OLB - Cunningham?  maybe after that not much ILB - Spikes and Mayo seem to be ok with Fletcher as the backup Safety - Chung is the only reliable person here CB - McCourdy needs to return to his rookie form  RasI should be an upgrade Special teams Please get a return specialist!

Hoyer is an RFA, not sure if they want to make the offer they would have to sign him. I am not sure why another team would trade for him anyhow.

That is scary going into the season with Vereen, Ridley and Woodhead as your RBs. I have to assume the bring in a veteran FA there.

I do not know why you would keep Edelman. He has done nothing in his career at WR. Slater is the special teams captain. I assume he is back. I think they are paying Ocho either way, but I do not expect anything from him. They need a big outside WR. I do not care about a deep threat. I just want some one taller than the CBs.

They need another TE. How you can build your offense around two TE sets and then only carry two TEs.

I do not have the faith you do in the OL. Light will be another year older. Solder looked good in limited action, but Cannon gets an incomplete. Mankins has been a disappointment after getting his money. Waters is close to retiring. The are going to need a young center soon.

The d-line needs players and depth. Anderson is probably going to look for money and years after putting up 10 sacks. Same with Carter if he is healthy. As you mentioned Warren and Ellis are done. The young guys are good rotation players, but the are all replaceable.

I like Ninkovich, but the could use a better OLB. Mayo and Spikes both need to get better against the pass. Spikes aggressiveness hurts him at times. He still needs to learn to play under control.

The DBs are a disaster still. Chung and Arrington are the best two and they each only have one year left. Ihedigbo is another FA who may walk. I do not think McCourty at FS is the answer (he played mostly CB versus the Giants and didn't look that good). Moore played way over his head, I am not sure you can count on him being consistent. Molden, Sergio Brown, Malcolm Williams, and Nate Jones can all walk and I will have no problem with that.

Bring Brandon Lloyd let 85 go.

Develop Vareen, he can catch and really run with the ball.

Keep developing Spikes, he will be the leader along with vince, Mayo is a joke ! i have always defend him... but i´m done... he is a good Lb and never will be more, Spikes can be special.

Develop Ras-I Dowling, he can be a Very good CB, big and fast

The Oline is fine ! bring light back and waters for 1 more year.

Draft at least 2 Defensive players early. a DE and a LB (tracy white started yesterday)

Re: My Take on the Pats' Needs

Good and interesting Post , but it's like a legal case where the Prosecution is up first with a fine presentation and then comes the defence, diffuses and discredits bringing in the alternate view with facts. Then the star witnesses make great contributions.

Coupla bounces did'nt go our way, Nink draws a penaly on 3rd and long giving the Giants a 1st instead of a punt, Gronk did'nt bat the interception away and he had every right to maul the guy doing it but he did'nt. A Few critically timed Catchable passes dropped. Played just well enough to win but lost to a good team with a better game plan with T-O-P superiority.

BJGE is a between the Tackles runner only and the Giants needed only a spy on him. The Pats were brilliant while showing run with Play action a few times - reverse and screens - then that stopped? Why? Then back to the pass base only offense with the best difference maker talent lamed up? It did'nt make sense.

I'd also love to know how much authority Brady has in the over-all play calling - I think little. The playcalling and base offense is square on the shoulders of OC and HC. Rusty is right, the pass heavy playcalling lost that game in reality and Giants covered well. Rusty, stop looking for the cherry in the fruit cocktail and put the blame elsewhere - coaches perhaps? And yes Rusty what you say has been happening for 3+ years now. How obvious! The coaches lost the game of smarts as well.

    Future:
Bring in a proven tough RB and wideout, Take Chance in the draft with another legit WR, Defensive 'difference makers' if we get lucky. ST seems ok but need the best available Punt returner in the draft if that's all he does that is fine, field position is everything.

All teams missed the preseason no excuse but they have all had a full season of practice and games and many players apparently show nothing or little. I have NO confidense in BJGE as feature back as Ridley, Vereen - Backups at best, Cunningham, McCourty, Ellis, glass legs Dowling, slow Spikes and unbelievably a d'backfield that started the season as a supposedly strong unit is badly in need of a makeover. Belichick brings in 18 D'lineman after the lockout and he hit on perhaps 2 making an impact for a so-called defensive genious.

In the end the Pats coaching stupidly LOST it by turning off the run and PA! Not Brady! They never should have lost the way they did and that falls on coaching and timely execution by the players. Kraft is the one who really knows and manages the CAP status! Rusty, without Brady, this team is 9-7 at best even Belichick knows that but Belichick will NEVER say anymore than "Tom Brady is a good Player and I'm glad we have him"! HUH? I like Belichick as a good head coach but he can't open up because the media will have a field day and he knows that better than anyone.
We will never know the answers!

All is hindsight now but good discussion. Eli proved himself and deserves the MVP! Good guy too!

    Good health to all....

What makes every one so sure that Lloyd wants to follow McDaniels here? He has been talking up Jeff Fisher since the Rams hired him. The Patriots are going to have to pay Welker almost $10M as a franchise WR. Do you see them spending another $8 or so on Lloyd?

I like people who know how good Vereen and Dowling can be based on what they did in college or a couple of touches in the pros. Vereen had 15 carries for 57 yards (that 3.8 per) in garbage time of two games. Now he is ready to be a starting RB in the NFL. Ridley look decent, but after he fumbled in back to back games he never saw the field again.

The o-line is still good. Although, Mankins was not anywhere near one of the top guards in the league after getting his money. Light and Waters are both coming to the end of long careers. Solder looks like a keeper and Vollmer is solid when healthy, but they are going to need younger center soon.

The definitely still need to upgrade on D-line. Anderson and Carter (if healthy) are both probably going to look for more money and years after putting up double digit sacks. Ellis and Warren are done. The young guys are okay, but nothing great (and you need a rotation of 5 or 6 defensive linemen in the modern NFL).

This team has plenty of good players, but a ton of free agents this offseason (20 total FAs and 17 unrestricted). They have draft picks, but you cannot pencil a draft pick into your starting line up. It will be a very interesting offseason.

Re: My Take on the Pats' Needs

    Here we go:
    1. We need a real solid Corner Back and Safety.  The Pats DBs are the weakness on the team.
    2. A replacement for Logan Manskin. He is getting old and slow. Cannot keep up with the pass rush.
    3. A solid center since Tom got hits in the middle a lots.
    4. A star wide receiver like Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. I like Blackmon in the draft from Oklahoma State.
Fill up these spots with a talent players, the Pats will be back in the Super Bowl 47
    Good Luck Patriots!!!!!!!!
