title="Permanent Link: Patriots reach a contract extensih CB Kyle Arrington">Patriots reach a contract extension with CB Kyn

The Patriots have locked up Kyle Arrington for two more seasons, a renegotiation that takes the place of the former Hofstra product signing an exclusive rights tender. And he got a bunch of up-front money, as well.

Arrington’s two-year deal has a maximum value of $3,275,000, with a minimum salary this season and $850,000 next season. It includes playing time escalators that could drive up his base for 2012.

The former undrafted free agent had 71 tackles with one interception returned for a touchdown last season, a surprise starter. His contract was worked on by his agents Sean Stellato and Richard Kopelman of KLASS Sports. They also rep Gary Guyton and (as I thought they would) did a similar deal for him.

We are extremely pleased that the Patriots recognized Kyle’s value,” Kopelman said. “And the renegotiation puts a deal in place that includes guaranteed money that will keep Kyle in a Patriots uniform for the next two years.”

The Arrington signing is great, he is Otis Smith all over again.  Makes solid play after solid play, otherwise you'd never know he was over there...

Good Point...... I was definately wrong in which military school they played at, but my point is sound in that they bring no value whatsoever. I do like the free agent signings though.

Checking in on unsigned draft picks

The Patriots' top three draft choices remain unsigned, with left tackle Nate Solder (first round, 17th overall), cornerback Ras-I Dowling (second round, 33rd overall) and running back Shane Vereen (second round, 56th overall) all having missed the first seven practices (3 walkthroughs, 2 shorts/shells, 2 full pads).

Solder is one of seven selections in the first round yet to agree to terms.

For first-round contracts, one sticking point has been that some teams have offered deals that are fully guaranteed. This dynamic was nicely explained on Pro Football Talk, with Eagles executive Joe Banner explaining why some teams would be reluctant to do that.

Meanwhile, when an agent sees another rookie get a fully guaranteed deal, they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't attempt to get the same for their client.

The Patriots haven't had a draft pick miss this much time in training camp since tight end Benjamin Watson in 2004, although this year is different with the condensed timeframe and new rookie wage scale.

On Sunday, Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio said, "The reality is that we're in unchartered waters. This is the first time, so I think every team was trying to figure out what works for them, whatever the plan they have in place [is]. We’re dealing with it as best we can and every team is going through the same thing. When the players get here, that’s
    the most important."

Green-Ellis had been tendered as a restricted free agent; it is unclear if the fourth-year veteran inked a new deal or simply
signed his one-year restricted free agent tender
