I wonder when they will make the trades with the Ravens for Ray Rice and the Titans for Kenny Britt and Jason McCourty?

Rumor has it several of the recently signed UDFA's were only signed after they all enrolled at Rutgers Graduate program soon to be held at the new Rutger satelite site in Foxboro,Ma the building was formerly known as Foxboro Stadium. As a graduate student they have had their atheletic scholarships replaced with professional football contracts.

This is the pickup guy's fourth season.  In case of occasional preseason injuries, he has more chance to step in and contribute than does any rookie.  As with the Jake Ballard swipe a year ago, BB and staff are thinking ahead.  They don't just want another camp body to cut, they want a chance, any chance, to make the team on the field better.

Agreed the Patriots are always ahead of the curve. Ballard was a master stroke! Considering the present injuries being rehabbed by the Patriots two best TE's. The Patriots lost Lloyd and Welker and as an insurance policy they signed the guy who replaced Welker at TTU after he left Amendola,BB also recognized how much  a headache it was for his secondary too cover Boldin in the AFC championship game so he drafted a guy who could double as Boldin size wise, in Boyce and is the same type of receiver only a little faster! They also switched the WR position from smallish to maybe the tallest group ever assembled. For the first time they have 4 WR's in camp who are in the 6'2 - 6'4 range! Never let it be said the Patriots don't fix their problems when able to do so.

Nervous Patriots players will be checking out the waiver wire daily to see if any Rutgers players get waived while all UD Rutgers players are eagerly waiting by their phones right now.

The New England Knights has a nice sound don't you think? But seriously, anyone want to put $20 down that Steve will get a coaching job at Rutgers in the next 5 years?

Sometimes I wonder if BB is to reliant on his coaching tree to evaluate talent at times and not enough on his scouting staff. Heck even Schiano didn't want these guys and he coached them.

He may have learned from Pete Carroll, he found out that the College relationship he had with his players didn't carry over well to the NFL. In College they don't have the same level of accountability, and so they can be more buddy, buddy. In the pro ranks it's a business and if you start taking your friends in as business partners failing could have different results including fractured friendships. Carroll tried to bring a couple of his kids in but they didn't work out due to reasons like this. Hello Big Mike Williams he's the example that sticks out the most. In either case BB had a spy at Rutgers in his son Steve so he's knows the work ethic of each of these guys up front.

BB is friends with Schiano, so it's more likely he'd get info from Schiano with some input from Steve.

the main things one can learn from pete carroll is how to be a phony and how to cheat then skip town

when that midget ran a fake punt up 45-0 last year the opposing coach should have paid one of his players to cheapshot his qb or planted him at the end of game handshake

Lets not get too excited her until cut-downs. 90 man roster is one thing, 53 is a whole different beast. And this new signing looks pretty interesting regardless of his former college. Spot starter and fill in during his pro career with tackle/guard flexibility vs. rookie UDFA - seems like a no-brainer trade out at the back of a 90 man roster.

I don't get excited about any additions at this time of year,I just like writing the arrivals of guys who are interesting in one way or another, and lets face it anytime another of the Rutgers guys winds up in Foxboro it does get folks wondering what BB's up to!

It's more like morbid curiosity that we keep grabbing Rutgers players in all honesty. It's just one of those things you turn your head at and just laugh saying, oh that BB. Fun to make fun of but I don't think anyone of us truely thinks they will all make the team. In all honestly other then our 3rd round picks, McCourty, and Francis I think the rest have an uphill battle to make the 53man squad, which includes our 7th round pick. But, when you start looking at the roster and realizing how many players come from schools with coaches who are friends with BB it doesn't make you wonder if he's a bit to reliant on them for talent evaluation and not enough on his scouting staff. I've always thought, when it comes to role players, STers, and depth guys you should trust your own sources for how they will fit because at that point it's more about heart, desire, leadership, and work ethic then talent. But, when talking about starters or impactful players you should trust your talent evaluators and scouts because they know your team and how they could possible fit much better then a coach in college.
