http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/nfl-considered-widening-playing-field-35-feet-may-190404198--nfl.html
"The National Football Post reported that the league has talked about widening the field sideline-to-sideline from 160 feet to 195 feet, which is the CFL standard, and the league might look into the idea again this offseason.
The National Football Post said the competition committee discussed the idea a year ago. In theory, a wider field would be safer for a league that has much bigger and faster players than it did decades ago."
The reason given is that the change improves player safety, but the end result is probably a more open passing game favoring big fast outside receivers going deep and wide. That kind of game is what Pats are ill staffed for presently, both with WR and CB.

F that. The NFL is not the CFL. The owners are such bs. They talk about safety and then are trying to make an 18 game regular season.

doesn't the cfl only have 3 downs?
35 feet wider and 4 downs, no defense will ever get off the field!
Speed will be at a premium.

Title of post says Yards. Should say Feet. I'd rather they go to 10 men on a side.

My mistake. Brain freezes in the winter. Should be 35 miles :-) Unfortunately cannot edit title.

Why do I get the feeling that I will no longer enjoy watching this game 5 to 10 years from now

Let's turn the NFL into the NHL! Maybe we can have glow in the dark footballs next? Or maybe we can get shirts shot out of cannons into the crowd? Perhaps we can do birthday night? We can get Chucky Cheez to give redeemable tickets to people in front of the jumbo tron - so they can get free compass rings at halftime. Beautiful.

Yeah give them more more to build up more speed to really knock someone silly.
The CFL use a a 65 yard wide by 150 long field. No thanks
maybe they could give them a couple more yeards on the side and a deeper endzone
but don't increase the length

Also add 6 more players on each team and have 2 qbs and the best completion progresses

When this article was cited in espn, one commenter (USB PatriotBruins) there suggested a wider field will also benefit slot receivers like Welker or TE like Hernandez, because it makes the middle of the field more open for them. A field wider by 35 ft will definitely benefit the passing game, read options and the offense in general. With 4 downs to make 10 yards, and a wider field, the defense will never get off the field, like patsbandwagonsince76 said.

Can you imagine the scores and the stats going through the roof? Some speed guy having numbers in 4 years equal to Rice, Moss, etc....could have current HOF numbers in 4/5 yrs.
86 to 78 passing yards 1234, receiving yards for a WR 678, TE 345, RBI 189.......
ridiculous

If they do that then they should go back to the pre Polian rules and let the corners actually cover the receiver. let em hit em 10 yards as opposed to the sissy 5.

They are slowly ruining this game. Come on, just make it so that defensive player's can't have a 40 time faster than 4.7 and give the offense a few extra receivers. That would ensure that the receivers could easily run past the... err I mean it would ensure that the defensive players wouldn't hit the receivers as hard. Yup, that's it.
Oh yeah, can't forget the flags either.

Maybe they should make it like horse racing where they force jockeys to carry extra weight.

Why do you think BB is stocking up on CFLers, hmmm? One of these days you'll all be convinced of his brilliance.

Can you imagine a Brady hurry-up offense in this scenario? Not only will the D never get off the field, half the defensive roster will require open-heart surgey by the bye-week.

Too many stadiums are built to the current gridiron dimensions. Fans like to be right on top of the action.
If the field is too small, come up with a Nerf football. That will make the field bigger.
