    Nick McDonald and Hawkins released

Don't know if someone else started a thread on this but these two got let go, along with receiver Ashford.

McDonald has filled in a lot over the past two years and they gave Hawkins some guaranteed money, plus reports were coming out that he had looked really good this off season. Interesting.

Not that it is the reason but Hawkins dropped 2 balls monday night. Both were passes out in the flat not to difficult.

McDonald always seemed to have some injuries, based on the reports. Maybe the young guns' camp performance already made Hawkins expendable?

On Hawkins, probably...on McDonald, maybe they have a few cheaper, hungrier, more healthy alternatives and they want to give him a shot of catching on somewhere else.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. As far as the receivers they let go, I think it's encouraging for the young guys they have in camp right now.

    Money lost...

    Jeff Howe @jeffphowe 11m

Patriots cut WR Lavelle Hawkins, who got a $150,000 signing bonus in May and a $25,000 workout bonus. Yeesh.

So McDonald's younger brother outlasted him? Bragging rights.

Re: Nick McDonald and Hawkins released

I also heard pretty reliably if unclaimed McDonald will be back once he is ready. Not sure on his injury, or when he will be ready, but understand Pats like him a lot. Also have to look at next years cap situation, which at the moment is not good, and look at Connollys contract, and Wendell's pending free agent status. McDonald can play multiple oline spots, and has been effective. Watch the Giants take him in a reverse Ballard pay back!
