They have also signed TE Justin Jones from East Carolina, 6-8/277

    http://www.ecupirates.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/justin_jones_443819.html

"Has displayed one of the more significant off-season progressions in the Pirate program, adding 20-plus pounds in a dedicated strength and conditioning regimen ... Maintains a steady two-deep position as the offensive unit's top tight end and inside receiver in various scheme packages ... Added physical development could result in strong honors candidacy at the conference level, and because of size, could be ECU's most viable hopeful in the 2014 NFL Draft ... A 2013 Second-Team Preseason All-Conference USA selection by Phil Steele's College Football Preview Magazine ... Successfully bounced back from an injury-plagued sophomore campaign with career-best pass-catching numbers as a junior ... Labeled as a difference maker because of visible size, vertical ability and pass catching ability as a prototype third-down, redzone or possession-type receiver ... Provides quarterbacks with a big, but soft-handed target in the middle of the field or endzone for fade routes, or if necessary, last play "Hail Mary's" as evidenced by a national headline-producing game-winning grab vs. Tulsa in the 2010 opener, which also served as his collegiate debut ... Began spring scrimmage season with one catch for 10 yards on April 6 ... Had a pair of receptions (29 yards) a week later during the second tilt and hauled in five throws for 47 yards in the Purple-Gold Game (April 20) ... Earned "excellent" designation during the off-season strength and conditioning testing period ... Set a new position record with a 340-pound power clean lift ... Other numbers of note were in the bench press (400 pounds), back squat (465), push jerk (300), vertical jump (37.5") and broad jump (115.5") ... Despite size, is an agile athlete as evidenced by efforts in the pro shuttle (4.17) and the three-cone drill (6.96) ... Has played in 32 career games with nine starts at the inside receiver and tight end positions ... Booked multiple catches in 13 of 32 contests."

You know I'm actually liking our UDFA's a lot. Some good TE's to develop (if they can keep them) and I really like the Morris pickup. I think 1 TE (by the name of JDD) and Morris make the squad this year

Wouldn't be shocked if Jones had a good shot too. Pats are going to carry 3 TE's maybe 4 and Gronk might not be ready for the start of the season. Who do the rooks currently have to beat really? Williams? If Jones shows he can block they might keep him as an emergency T/TE

I'm telling you don't sell the kid short. Might take a year or two to develop and he won't ever be a #1 TE but I wouldn't sell hit short yet.

With a 37" vertical and a 6.88 cone, he could be a 10 yard red zone dream come true. Therefore he is my "Good Karma" hope for this year. I think back to Harold Charmichael of the Eagles.

I liked the draft this year. I really liked the "Go Big or Go Home" strategy for the OL.

Is it my imagination, or is the Patriot strategy morphing, at least in the trenches? It seems like the OL is getting heavier and slower and DL is getting lighter and quicker. Big, tough, plodding OL, smallish, quick RBs. They were vulnerable up the middle on both lines last year. They've begun to address the OL issue with this draft.

With the DL, I guess they're banking on VW being back in form, and Kelly too. That and a very deep DT/DE rotation so people are fresh. Armstead, Buchanan, Easley, Jones, Jones, Kelly, Nink, Smith, Vellano, Wilfork. That's 10 guys, how many stick?
