    Okay - where do they all fit???

    with free agency and the draft behind us, let's get some predictions (with explanations) about where all these guys fit in BB's view of the 2014 Patriots ... last year resulted in an amazing amount of turnover to make room for the draft class, a offseason signings/trades and a significant number of UDFA's - what's it gonna look like this year?

    FAs  ( Revis, Browner, LaFell, Chung, Smith )

    Draftees ( Easley, Garoppolo, Stork, White, Fleming, Halapio, Moore, Thomas, Gallon )

    Injured Newbies ( Armstead, Harrison, Boyce )

    We'll deal with this years's UDFAs later.

    Not good for the injured guys.  If they are not ready to go they at high risk to get the heave ho.  Easley will be in a very good rotation.  That's going to be interesting.  Garoppolo will ride the pine and learn.  This is not a bad thing.  I wonder if Moore will stick.  If put on waivers someone will jump on him.  The OL picks will compete.  Some might start and at the very least give the Pats the backup they lacked last year.  The rest good luck.

    Revis starts.  Browner will start.  LaFell will get his opportunities.  Chung.  Has he learned anything?  Special teams perhaps?  He might get cut in the end.  Smith will be in the DE rotation hopefully keeping everybody fresh for the playoffs.

    Easley-makes the 53 man roster, but does not dress every game depending on the opposition

    Garoppolo-does not take a single snap all season

    Stork-has a chance to start..but could also end on on PS.

    White-team keeping 3 QB's only allows for 4 RB/FB players. White on the bubble

    Fleming-border line ST player/PS player

    Halapio-PS

    Moore-cut

    Thomas-cut

    Gallon-PS

    I also think Jemea Thomas will play, maybe taking some snaps way from Tavon, contributing in the slot and some dime packages and become a very good ST player.

    On the topic of URFA's... I thought James Morris was a draftable player, so it wouldn't shock me at all to see him make the 53 man roster, when all is said and done.

    2012 - seven picks and six made the 53-man roster AND then returned to make the 2013 roster as well

    2013 - seven picks and all seven made the 53-man roster; four or five are likely locks for the 2014 roster

    2014 - nine picks and nobody is sure beyond Easley & Garoppolo whether any will crack the roster and most hoping that the offensive linemen will make it through to the practice squad so that they can be developed in potential future contributors ... if this is true, then why didn't we trade up or out to next year????

    That's the thing and what's so frustrating for some.  They don't fit.

    Is everyone 4th round and later going on the practice squad?

    Who do 3 o-line men replace?  You just can't stash 3 o-line men without replacing some.

    Are they going to convert them to TE's?

    They won't be able to keep another RB with 3 QB's.

    I never understood the trading down for more low round picks that ultimately become dead money.

    The roster is still 53.  You use them or lose them.   In order to keep them, they must be upgrades over the vets and I just don't see that in this bunch.  (maybe the center)  There is no stashing for the future, other than IR and how often does that work out?.  EVER?

    one man's opinion ... he missed on many with last year's roster prediction even after viewing preseason

    I'm not sure the OL are "locks" for the 53 and if they are not, will they survive a move to PS so that they can be developed???

    Re: Okay - where do they all fit???

    Where should they fit?

    Easley makes it.

    Garapollo makes it.  IF All else fails in a not-too-extreme 53 man sense, Mallet is in his last year and he gets cut.  Do you keep a roster spot IF you're probably letting him go to a higher bidder next year, idk?  NE drafted Garapollo for the future.

    Bryan Stork is with Ryan Wendell at OC...Both guys can also play OG.  They gotta be both on the 53.  Braxston Cave?

    James White is with  Stevan Ridley & Shane Vareen...I don't think a 4th RB on roster currently comes close.  Maybe a 4th with Brandon Bolden...then there's James Develin & Jonas Grey-  BB could the 1st 3...or possibly 4.

    Cameron Fleming OT with Nate Solder, Marcus Cannon & Sebastian Vollmer...again, I'm not sure anyone else is really that close.  There's 4...RJ Mattes & Jordan Devey?

    Next, ya got Logan Mankins & Dan Connoly & have to decide between 2 outta 3 of- Jon Halapio & Chris Barker & Josh Kline...maybe you can keep ALL 3, or just stash 1 on the PUP-seeing as Cannon, Wendell, Stork, and I believe Fleming too, have all played OG & also, ya got such depth ya wanna keep @ A-lot of potential/equal depth skill @ WR, DL, & the Secondary.

    Zach Moore-Practice Squad...I'm sure BB probably thinks that IF someone wants to immediately keep a DII Ed 6 Project DE no-matter-how-physically-gifted, On their 53- whatever.

    Jemea Thomas @ CB...  Probably PS, but who knows?  Next year DMC's sees FA and someone'll pay him HUGE, and Revis is a 1 year rental seeing his 2nd year is for a gazillion $'s.  After those 2, ya got Kyle Arrington, Alfonso Dennard, Brandon Browner, and in almost all probability, Logan Ryan.  6 guys without Thomas.  IF ya kept Thomas?  =7.  At any given time 4 see the field at any given time.  Many times these days 5.  So what IF ya kept 8?     =Who's left is Nate Ebner, Duron Harmon, Tavon Wilson, & Patrick Chung, Kanorris Davis, & Justin Green.  Idk how many they usually keep, so...?  It's tough, but IF all else failed, I'd rather want Ebner & Browner's conversion to SS, than either of Wilson, or Chung.  In some odd scenario eyeing next year...maybe Thomas actually makes the 53?

    WR's stacked...so Jeremy Gallon, probably PS-Granted Aaron Dobson, Josh Thompkins, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Brandon LaFell, & Matthew Slater.  That's at least 6 Wideouts probably who're gonna be making the team.  Afterwords, ya still got Josh Boyce, Mark Harrison, Reggie Orton, & Greg Dunn.

    TE has Gronk, Hoomanawanui, then probably I see just 1 more in that Asa UDFA guy and/or DJ Williams...and there's a few other UDFA's.  I see BB using a "move" TE, whom could even be a player-type like LaFell, so...?

    BB'll shortchange somewhere for DL, granted:  Rob Ninkovich, Jake Bequette, Chandler Jones, VW, Dominique Easley, Armond Armstead, Sealver Siliga, Will Smith, Chris Jones, Michael Buchanon, Joe Vellano, Marcus Forston, and Zach Moore.

    ^  That's rough...but with Mayo, Hightower, and Collins, the only true locks 1 could forsee right now @ LB, some of Nink & Bequette can translate to LB too (Ja'Gared Davis Josh Hull, Steve Beauharnais, Chris White, your other LBs?).  So what IF, the 1st 3 with Nink & Bequette included @ LB for 5...then you could count 6/7 other/pure DL of:  Chandler Jones, VW, Easley, Armstead, and 3 of:  Siliga, Smith, Jones, Buchanon, Vellano, Forston, Moore.

    ~~~
    IF you just did that, and didn't add 1 more, you'd have 12 DL and LBs towards your 53...41 spots left.  Then 3 RBs=38.  If ya only did 2 QBs=36.  What IF only 2 true TE's_Hoom & Gronk w/ using a "Move" WR/TE?  Then 34.  4 OGs and 4 OTs & 2 OCs (some guys playing OC/OG & OT/OG)-24 spots left.  And what IF you kept those 8 Secondary guys?  =Then 16 spots.  Now WR- 6 guaranteed including Slater=10 spots left.  1 punter & 1 Kicker=8 spots.
    ...8 spots to go, so now:  You can keep 1 more newbie TE (Asa?), 1 more WR, 1 LS, a 3rd QB in Mallet...4 left.  2 more DL + 2 more OL...or:  2 more DL + 1 more OL + Maybe 1 more RB in Bolden?
    ~~~

    ...there, lol- Now no one needs ta go to training camp this year :^)

    Here's the current 90-man roster (84 players, 6 spots open).  I think there are only about a dozen players on that list that are absolute locks to make it.  Almost everyone has some serious competition for his slot.  I don't think you can make much of a prediction until camp and preseason are well underway.

    Pro thanks for posting the list. The interesting thing is to start the season they may have Gronk, Smith and Easly who may start out on PUP and Browner who is out the 1st 4 games. The interesting decisions may come after the season is underway when these guys are ready to return.

    Agreed...Morris makes the squad, plays ST's, eventually a key LB backup...Thomas will as well, as Tavon Wilson learns to say "goodnight, Dick" finally and White becomes a fixture in the rotation and a 3rd down specialty player as a shocking cut of either Vereen or Ridley depending upon whether Bolden ever gets out of BB's pooch house.
