Joe, I'm here to tell ya (and there are others who will as well) there were some pretty agonizing years being a fan of this team.
yes I have heard allllll about those years as well. i kinda wish I witnessed some of them before the SBs to make it that much more bittersweet.... oh well
The Bledsoe game against Vikings got the the pats on the map a little. When he hit turner for the game winner I believe.

first Super Bowl against rams nothing like the first one. The welcoming of brady.

The Super Bowl against the giants the first one . That one was the most crushing loss.

Hmmm besides brady best all time for me Ty Law .. when healthy he had one side of the field shut down. Which made it easy to game plan the rest. Troy Brown just made plays plain and simple. Their are so many hard to pick one.

All time Favorite...Willie McGinest, guy would be quiet all game and make the game saving sack...Warner in SB 36, stuff of james on 1 yardline in Indy..

Best win for me was in Miami - Fins had pass caught out of bounds allowing them to run up and kick tying FG, miss FG in OT and Brady hits Troy Brown with 80 yard bomb for win.

Worst loss SB 42 - still cant figure why no FG try instead went for it on 4th and 13, and see answer to 1...Willie still on team he breaks out of the HOLDING and makes sack....

Best season by far 2001....nothing will ever be as magical as that first SB win

    1) Randy Moss - until the problems in 2010 - dude was unstoppable even with Cassel at QB. Seymour, Brown, Fork and Bru are up there too

    2) It was a game against Indy a few years ago, I believe it was Manning's last time playing the Pats with them. Colts were coming back in the 4th but a James Sanders pick sealed the game. Last year's game against Denver was a fun one too..attending any Brady vs. Manning game is a real treat!

    3) SB 42. Nuff said.

    4) 2001 was just an unbelievable roller coaster season and kicked off the dynasty. The huge underdog factor made that one more special IMO
That's so true about Brady vs. Manning anytime. Also why I want to end up in Dnver for the AFC Championship game, even though it's a scary scenario. But if we win, we'll win the SB against anyone and ice the rivalry forever...Will for sure take the wind out of Manning's sails and put the NFL pundits overly generous Peyton' praise for this season in perspective (still can't close it out...). We'll see if I'm just dreaming or not, but I sense poetic justice on the horizon, one game at a time!

That would be one way to define some of those years. The truly sad part was that sporadically the team on the field was pretty good but the ownership seemed to undermine the football operations at every turn until Kraft bought the team.

It was more than sporadic in my opinion. From the mid 70s to the late 80s the Patriots were very talented, especially on defense. Their linebackers and defensive backs were very good. They just came up short year after year. Poor ownership and playing in a strong division certainly contributed to their lack of success.

I don't know the playoff appearance seem sporadic and it looks like they were... dare I say the jets as far as record is concerned before the Krafty one bought the team. here is the breakdown by decade:

60 thru 69 they were 63-68-9 with one playoff appearance

70 thru 79 they were 66-78 with 2 playoff appearances

80 thru 89 they were 78-72 with 3 playoff appearances    SB appearance

90 thru 93 they were 14-40  with 0 playoff appearances

Since kraft has bought the team:

94 thru 2013 they have been 219-103 with 14 playoff appearances a 6 SB appearances

As you alluded to in your post poor ownershp was a major factor.

Ok. I whittled it down to 2 answers per question.

    1) Oldtimers Steve Grogan
    Champions Rodney Harrison

    2) 11/13/94 vs Vikings link
    11/24/13 vs Broncos link

    3) 12/18/76 playoff game vs Raiders
    Super Bowl XLII

    4) 1/12/86 AFC Championship vs Dolphins. The Patriots ended an 18-game losing streak at the Orange Bowl.
Super Bowl XXXVI The Patriots won the Super Bowl!!!

1985 AFC Championship game in the Orange Bowl against Miami is still my favorite Pats game of all time. No on ethought they had a chance. They just could not win down there.

Been watching games for over 4 decades so its tough to pick favs but that said Troy Brown was the player who did the most with the least of any I have seen just kept getting cut and coming right back and made memorable plays all the time. like blocked fg against steelers return for td, the catch he made on his back, big catch on fg drive in nawlens(best game ive been to) play in SD on D many many more I just loved him.

Regular season games are hard to remember cuz ive seen so many but the comeback against the vikings was as good as it gets

The beat down by the Bears is way more crushing to me than 42, In 07we were 1:30 and the greatest catch in superbowl history from probably the greatest season in the NFL And the ride was just alot of fun.And Jints and MM and any other Giants fan should realize that in the near future the 07 giants are just going to be remembered as a trivial pursuit question Which team upset the Pats to end their undefeated season.LOL

    2001 hands down no question
