    Mike Reiss MikeReiss Woodhead had signed a one-year contract on Sept. 18. Patriots still would have controlled his rights after season.

    I think Faulk's fate was pretty much sealed after he went out for the season. I would be really surprised to see him return next year. He has been a fantastic player for the Pats but at this point I think it's safe to say Woodhead is the future at his position which in itself is awesome to hear.

    Sammy's the bowling ball. Faulk can't play that role. Woodhead's contract just means they're making sure nobody snaps him up 3 seconds after he becomes a free agent. Depending on  the draft and free agency something's going to change in the backfield next season.  But considering the dismal outlook everyone had for the running game at the beginning of the season I'm happier with it than I thought I'd be.
