         I'm concerned. Boomer Esiason, usually the voice of reason on the CBS pregame show, has picked the Lions to win! Worse yet, Shannon Sharpe has picked the Patriots!! YIKES!!!

    Did they have to start the broadcast by pointing out that Brady hasn't thrown a pick in 5 games?

    Mike Reiss MikeReiss Patriots call tails and win the opening toss. They defer the choice to the second half.

    seriously so much better than the Blue and Silver uniforms. i bought a throwback Welker Jersey recently. Here in So Cal, its good because everyone here is to dumb to realize I am wearing a Pats jersey, luckily that also means they don't bother me.

    On topic:how does the media think we can't shut down Calvin, but we were able to beat Manning and the Colts?

    Re: Patriots/Lions Game Thread

              I'm not expecting to see the Pats' roll over the Lions. Detroit finally appears to be on the right track to respectability....as the Lions do have some talent.

         A.) OFFENSE: Detroit has a very good passing attack, anchored by perhaps the best WR in the NFL, in 6'5" Calvin Johnson. They are 6th in the league in passing offense. But, their running game is awful. A season ending shoulder injury has sidelined QB Matthew Stafford. In his stead, the capable Shaun Hill has stepped in. Hill had his ups and downs, primarily due to a suspect OL. He has 9 TD passes in fairly limited play, but has also thrown eight (8) interceptions.

         B.) DEFENSE: The Lions' are a respectable 13th against the pass, led by safety Louis Delmas and ball hawking CB Alphonso Smith, who has had five (5) picks. Their DL can rush the passer. Rookie DT/NT Ndamukong Suh has been everything the Lions' hoped for, and more. His seven (7) sacks lead the team. Veteran DE Kyle Vanden Bosh (has 4 sacks...he's the guy who seemingly has ruined the career of Bengals' QB, Carson Palmer) is playing despite a sore knee, and DE Lawrence Jackson (3.5 sacks) is likely out. DE Cliff Avril is back from a hip problem. DT Corey Williams is expected to play despite dealing with a shoulder injury. But, for all their talent up front, the Lions' have allowed an average of 130 yards rushing per game (26th overall in the NFL).

         C.) SPECIAL TEAMS: The Patriots must beware of kick returner Stefan Logan, who is averaging 27.6 yards per kick-off return, and has a 105 yard TD return to his credit. In fact, the Lions rank #1 in the league in this area. Like the Patriots, the Lions starting place kicker, Jason Hanson, has been lost for the season, and replaced by Dave Rayner. Punter Nick Harris (44.7 average) is one of the better punters in the league

          Keys to a Patriots' Win:

         1.)
    This is the Lions' SB. It is imperative that the Pats get off to a good start, and take the crowd, and the Lions' enthusiasm to perform, away. Otherwise, this could develop into another Cleveland;

        2.) The Pats must establish their running game. This will serve to prevent the Lions' front seven from mauling the sore-footed Tom Brady, and will allow Brady to throw plenty of play-action passes...at which nobody is better;

         3.)
    The Pats "D" managed to secure three interceptions again Peyton Manning last week. No reason why they shouldn't be able to rattle Lions' QB Hill into a couple;

        4.) Nothing cheap!! By this I mean no Cleveland-like turnovers on offense...or no 40 plus yard TD passes, or lengthy kick returns. Doesn't it seem that Pats KR, Brandon Tate, is due to bust one?

         If the Pats can succeeds on all of the above, they should win easily...say...38-21. But, it remains to be seen whether the Pats, playing in their 3rd game in 11 days, can meet all points covered above.

         Let's hope that the Pats' don't give us indigestion!

         Happy Thanksgiving, you-all!!
