Big-picture view on 2013 season: As time passes, the 2013 campaign will be viewed favorably in terms of the resolve the Patriots showed after significant personnel losses, but that won’t ease the sting that coaches and players will feel after this one. A great opportunity was missed and the surprise, from this viewpoint, was that it was the team’s best player, quarterback Tom Brady, whose mistakes hurt most in the AFC Championship Game.

Brady’s deep ball doesn’t connect: Brady is going to have a long offseason after missing two deep balls in this game -- in the first quarter to Julian Edelman and in the second quarter to Austin Collie -- as there was separation and an open window in which to deliver the football both times. The throw to Edelman, in particular, was a huge play in the game. Brady’s struggles with the deep ball were a big storyline in this game.

Brady needs a receiver who can run to the ball.  The throw out of bounds is on Brady, but the other throw just needed a receiver with breakaway speed.

    Up
Ryan Allen -- Rookie punter played through a shoulder injury and delivered a couple of booming punts in the first half.

Austin Collie -- Veteran receiver turned out to be one of quarterback Tom Brady's most reliable options.

Chandler Jones -- Defensive end caught the eye with strong play against the run and a good rush that contributed to a red zone stop.

    Down
Danny Amendola -- Receiver was hardly a factor and had a drop in the third quarter.

Tom Brady -- The missed deep pass to receiver Julian Edelman in the first quarter will probably stick with the quarterback for a while. He also missed one to Collie late in the second quarter.

Alfonzo Dennard/Logan Ryan -- Young cornerbacks struggle in coverage and tackling.

I agree reiss is clueless brady down maybe arrington should be up also the OL played horrible wendle and solder got manhandeld

where is blount , i usually like reiss but he is clueless brady played well he missed some throws but with the WR core he has he played amazing

    Why we lost ...

No pass rush ... Jones and Ninko are not that good ... good fball players but not elite pass rushers

Game in Denver with Sept weather ... so no adversity for Horseface the Choker's rubber arm

Talib injury ... just like Ravens game ... deja vu all over again

Brady outplayed by Horseface ... he never missed a guy .... TB missed 2 wide open bombs

Blount is NOT the 2nd coming of  Jim Brown ... as I suspected ...

Brady has no Gronk .... and Horseface had ALL his weapons

Denver will get killed by Seattle ... and SF if they fluke out.  I sure hope Seattle as Manning will look like a jack azz .... lying on his back and throwing 3-4 picks

The league is built for parity. Years of winning results in a pool of less talented players. It is what it is. This team has no depth at skilled positions and overrated players as starters. This is mostly the fault of BB in his role as GM. He is not as good as GM as he is a head coach.

He showed no faith in the defense he drafted. The play calling in this game supports his lack of faith on the defensive side of the ball. The offense really has no-one to catch a ball.

I tip my hat for the team gettng to the conference game but the lack of talent showed in this game. They were overmatched.

It is what it is. As we head into next season there are so many holes to fill that I cannot see it getting much better quickly. I just hope BB listens to the scouts and drafts the better players rather than the value selections, which really showed just how much value they contributed today.

    [/QUOTE]

    +1

Say what you want about who is to blame but this post is it in a nutshell.  Could not agree more.  Unfortunately we are screwed next year with the Hernandez cap hit to fill the holes.

We must draft well and/or take a chance and trade Mallet for a high pick or Ridley for something decent in return to a desperate team with no running back.

Time to go all in is NOW!

Every QB misses a few passes every game.

You can't blame him that he didn't hit every pass to make up for everybody else sucking. That's insane.

Edelman is a tiny little midget. Those guys are hard to hit on a long pass with a step on the defender. The trajectory has to be perfect because of their height.

Time to moveon to the draft ....

There are 3 mega pass catching BIG TEs available ... I figure the Pats target one on R1 and in R2/3 a physical Safety and an ILB ... Skov out of Stanford would be a nice replacement for Spikes ... he's a BB kind of guy ...

FA's? don't know ... franchise Talib and sign Edelman ... bye bye Blount and Spikes

you seem to think I care about that.  you guys have been calling Manning every name in the book because of his look and mannerisms.  I am talking about Brady's actions when he's winning vs. losing.  They are two different things.  So call Luck whatever you like.  I don't mind.  Its petty and pathetic in my opinion.

As for Manning, I don't care all that much, but I hope he wins.  This was a game that pats fans hoped they could prove that Manning couldn't win in the postseason.  Clearly you are wrong.
