Day 1 is when the biggest overpays happen.  The Patriots haven't traditionally made any big moves on day 1.  I'd be surprised if that changed this year.

Probably not, they don't play at the beginning of free agency. It's why a lot of posters here hate the Pats and the way they do business.

Won't happen...why expect them to do much of anything but try to sign their own players who they know well? When they don't do that, expect them to have a few "2nd" tier FA's in their sights, and they won't be signed until every team gets a good handle on remaining cap space...

I fail to see how anyone could be surprised by this?!

The only team with cap space that I might worry about is Indy with Luck. Jets and Raiders will overpay for production and BB will wait in the weeds for the market to settle.

+1  Every year we hear patience and in the end we get nothing of note from FA. The other myth is you can find good talent in the secondary market. Truth is BB isn't waiting in the weeds he's stuck in them and gets left with the weakest of the prey that was too slow the get away from everyone else.

    Andre Carter,

Got cheap because of leg issues didn't finish out the year because of said leg issues

    Mark Anderson,

Average pass rusher that year (more than half his sacks came in garbage time and coverage sacks) and subpar run defender

    Tommy Kelly,

didn't even make it through a quarter of the season before body gave out

    Alge Crumpler,

Good back up, but a starter?

    Brian Waters,

Great starter but how much did that one year cost after his retirement thing?

    Brandon Lloyd,

Cut after a single season for red flag issues

    Danny Woodhead,

Love Danny but a scat back 3rd down back is really the best FA you can think of?

    Trevor Scott

And what was his claim to fame with the Pats other than being a JAG?

    [/QUOTE]

If that's the best list you came up with you found a couple good depth piece, a couple starters that lasted a year, a JAG, and a couple of aging players who were injured. If that's the best FA list we;ve had over 5 years that's not saying much.

Except for Woodhead and maybe Kelly they all have one thing in common, the Pats deemed them all to be so good they didn't bring any of them back the following year.

Ding ding ding!! You hit it! You just listed every decent free agent we've signed over the last four years right there! Nice work buddy! Winner winner, chicken dinner!

A defensive end that played 8 games, a defensive end that played 4, a defensive tackle that played four games, a tight end that dropped a sure touchdown in the playoff game against the Jets, a bipolar wide receiver, a guard and a defensive end that played special teams. What do all of these guys have in common? Not a single one of them played here for more than one year...why? Some were cut (Lloyd, Crump)...some wanted to be payed (Waters, Anderson)...some got hurt (old guys Carter and Kelly). I know Kelly hasn't been cut yet, but it very likely will happen and Woodhead wasn't signed during free agency.

Avoid getting any defensive game changers, like those get lucky hicks in Seattle have.  Wait for the draft, where we can trade down, so we can have more fifth round picks than anyone else, cause we are the smartest guys in the room.  This way we save money and still make the playoffs.. Then with that budget, we can sign a couple of 36 year old deep threats to energize our offense.

Re: Pats going to make a move?

Well, of course when you frame your opinions with subjective, nonsensical, fantastical statements that are far from objective, you can make yourself sound correct.

But when you take the emotion, drama, and agendas out of the equation, you see the Patriots have been near the top of league when it comes to balancing cap management and still getting valuable players. I really don't see how this could be argued, given their most recent success. 4 AFCCG appearances in the last 7 seasons. That's truly unbelieveable.

And yet they were good enough to make it to the AFCCG or the superbowl.  Much better than anyone you have suggested. They also didn't cost the Pats enough to have any down years. No other team can say that. Pretty good work by BB the GM.
