    Pat's sign Dan Gronkowski...

    The Gronk Brother's!

This could be a nice pick up if he plays any where near as well as Rob...  could at least be a blocking TE to serve as the Crumpler role from last year that used him as more of a blocker to open holes for the RB's...

A little more depth at TE and maybe hanging out in the BB system and learning from Rob he might turn out to be a gem.... it's worth trying...

The question is.... who gets the boot because of this signing?

Patriots agreed to terms with TE Dan Gronkowski, formerly of the Broncos.
Double Gronk power in New England. Dan is more of a blocking specialist than his phenom brother Rob, managing just eight catches for 65 yards in 12 games last season. Rob is locked in as an every-down tight end with Aaron Hernandez in the "Joker" role. Dan's snaps will be few and far between. Sep 6 - 2:58 PM

    More from NFL.com:

The Gronkowski family is full of athletes. Dan is one of five brothers, including the Arizona Wildcats' Chris and Rob (a junior who earned consensus All-Pac-10 accolades in 2008). Their father, Gordie Sr., played on the offensive line at Syracuse. Dan's older brother, Chris, played three years in the California Angels organization.

Despite starting 17 games in 2006-07, Gronkowski was primarily used as a blocker early in his career, catching only 11 passes for 114 yards during that time. Though his senior numbers were far from eye-popping (29-287-3), scouts felt he emerged in 2008 and league coaches agreed, awarding him honorable mention All-ACC honors.

Gronkowksi's size, blocking skills and ability to move the chains could make him a solid reserve tight end in the NFL. Had an arm span of 34 1/2 inches and a hand span of 10 1/2 inches at the combine.

Surprise, Surprise.  For BB who stock piles picks year after year he sure has a lot of misses.  How many guys are left from the draft class of 2007?  Here are a few guys that weren't drafted by the Patriots.  Sounds like if Bill had to relay on his draft skills instead of other teams cuts and video tape he would be dead meat.

Ocho, Welker, Haynesworth, Gronkowski, Bodden, Taylor, Harrison, Stallworth, Dillon, Woodhead, Flutie, Ellis, Moss, Waters, Crumpler, Morris, Page, Galloway, Springs, Thomas, Vrabel, Seau, O'Neal, Gaffney, Evans, Colvin.

I wonder if this is going to confuse defenses.

Have both gronks in the red zone dual TE Setup, make sure you cover the right one.

The only thing that bugs me a little about this is the Pats lose a 5th round pick by not keeping Lee Smith....  and what happens to the $171K signing bonus we paid him?

    Anyone know?

The Patriots reportedly reached an agreement on a contract Wednesday with tight end Lee Smith, a fifth-round pick out of Marshall. The 6-foot-6, 266-pounder was taken by New England with the 159th overall pick in the draft, and is the second pick to agree to a deal on Wednesday. (Sixth-round selection Markell Carter reached an agreement earlier in the day on a four-year deal.) According to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com who quotes a league source, Smith received a $171,480 signing bonus.

I guess it's just part of the business...  Lee Smith is even bigger than Dan Gronkowski at 6' 6" 266lbs... seems like he had promise...

    Or Yeatman could have stayed......

Obviously BB didn't like what he saw and thinks Gronk will be a better bet....

And.... the Pats had to make room on the roster by cutting Butler!

    Those are some tough decisions.....
