Ya, mad Talib won't be here next year and we'll be back to the 31st ranked D.

That ought to make you mad too.

Actually, ecstatic they won and Talib played out of his mind.  Who else on D, did?

    [/QUOTE]

McCourty, Gregory, Mayo, Tommy Kelly had to play bigger because Vince was out... then again you wouldn't know good if you saw it.  Talib was good but the defense altogether was good against a very good offense, Dennard was good, considering their best player (Vince) was out.

Honest question:  Are you ever content?  Seems as if you find the negativity in every situation.  That's not healthy dude

Exactly... 12 more games this season + playoffs, and he's already complaining about next year...

No, not quite. More concerned with no playmakers on D, but him, this year.

5 picks and Talib has 4 of them.  Nuff said.

my one knock on D is they are really struggling with RBs out of the backfield. Last year Mayo was shut down on RBs in the pass game, this year he seems a step behind. i love mayo and he's actually me favorite guy on D but its just something a noticed. even hightower has struggled too. thats my only big knock on the D and the pass rush isnt as consistent as it should be

but overall they are playing great

    Re: Pay Talib..

Talib is unquestionably making his presence known as the best CB in this town since Ty Law.   But, his contract is something to discuss further down the line.

My gut tells me the Pats will give him a long term deal.  Not because of what he did tonight, but because of how the minute he was injured in the AFC Championship last year, the Ravens took over the game - you see how good he is in his absence.  BB is not going to sing the praises of Ed Reed every year when he finally has found his own younger "Reed" in Talib.  It'll work out.

Wozzy is right:  there's 10 other guys out there who make the D stand up.   And they've been showing great stuff for 4 games.   Ask guys like Polamalu what made the Steelers D of yesteryear so good.  Yeah, Polamalu can't do it alone now....see?  Neither can Revis.

    Re: Pay Talib..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they can't come to a long-term agreement with Talib, they always can slap the franchise tag on him for next year, right?

That keeps him in NE for at least one more season--maybe during that time they'll come to an accord. Maybe not.

But at least they'd get him for another full season.

Something tells me that BB is smart enough to realize that a lot of the defensive schemes they've been cooking up since Talib arrived would not be possible without him. That certainly was not the case with Asante Samuel, who has a nose for the ball and makes plays, but isn't a great 1-on-1 cover guy.

History has shown that BB will pay the guys whom he feels are still young enough to contribute for several more years and whom he believes are integral pieces to the puzzle and cannot be easily replaced.

Welker, clearly, can be replaced--Edelman is already doing the job and a healthy Amendola also will help fill whatever gaps Welker's departure left; Ty Law was allowed to leave because he was asking for a ton of money AND he was on the downside of his career and coming off a serious foot injury; Samuel was allowed to leave because he was too much of a "me" guy and his skill set, while missed since he left, was not that of a true "shutdown corner".

On the other hand, Wilfork was paid because BB realized that he was the anchor of the D-line. Talib may fall into the same category as Wilfork in BB's mind, because he has exhibited true "shutdown corner" skills since arriving from Tampa Bay, and, more importantly, he's only in his fifth season and would appear to have a lot of football left in him.

    Re: Pay Talib..

Good points hardright. Worst case they can franchise him and that will cost them a ton of money, but Talib is worth it given the trickle down effect he has on the defense. When you can take a guy like Julio jones out almost single handedly, a teams best WR, then that is worth money. Got to keep Talib.

    Re: Pay Talib..

Gresh and Zolak were speculating the Pats will offer Talib a contract of around 3/21. Think he will go for that? Finnegan, Tillman and Joseph make more than that, not to mention the Revis and Bailey kind of money.

They had better try to pay him. They made the mistake of paying Bodden, being the 1st guy here in years over 6 ft that could cover, they fell in love, but I always cautioned about one year wonders. This guy is proving last year was no fluke and he is even better. Sadly, that Is Why I dont expect to see him next year. We will draft another CB most likey,...cuz you know, that Stud FS McCourty is due a big deal I keep hearing......,,,,smh
