 What a hypocrite!

The NFL fined Brady for sliding in a manner they deem "unsafe"...

 

Dislike Pollard, but he's right...Goodell sucks.

It is obvious that the size. speed and strength of today's players even exceeds those of player just 20 years ago. It is also obvious that player protection has not kept up with the player and probably never will.

This is one rule that might help. IMHO if the players were not allowed to leave their feet like a missile. Guys come in as a player is engaged and leave their feet like a missile all the time. It is exactly what caused the Ridley fumble. Pollard was a missile. It is even worse when a 300 lb guy does it or when the RB has a LB doing it and extremely bad when a DB does it to a reciever. This would make all tackles be body tackles and not missiles. I would also include RBs, WRsand QBs not be allowed to dive head first.

Pollard should look in the mirror.  A little self evaluation is in ordere young man!  Not enough introspective, humble players today.  Remember, Bernie, when you point at others, their's three fingers pointing back at you: Welker, Gronk and Brady....and almost Ridley...!!!

I agree.  Except in this case Pollard didnt leave his feet for whatever that is worth....Ridley was more of the missle that unfortunately got intercepted...

The ironic thing being that football was almost banned in this country over 100 years ago... Intersting stuff to read up, as many 33 college players died in a single season due to injuries on the field. It took presidential intervention to change the rules of the sport http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/05/opinion/greene-super-bowl/index.html.

Of course, football was a dramatically different game back then (it looked a lot more like a series of Rugby scrums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNtNd3V7JS4) and it was not uncommon for violent fist fights to break out between players (like the modern NHL).

Pollard says "we know what we signed up for", but that is not stopping former players from suing the league for concussion related maladies.  Who knows if that will ever end.  If it doesn't, that will be the end of the NFL, because owners will not be able to legislate out enough of the violence to keep the concussions from happening. 

Take another unbiased and objective look at that replay. Then you can correct or comment.

I truly don't know if there's a viable resolve for the number of concussions. The formulation of effective helmets could be cumbersome, awkward and alien looking. Imagine the league resembling the Predator, which basically is what this league as become anyway.
