    I had to listen to home games on the radio as we never sold out much durring those years.

    I remember those days.

    My first favorite player was Mack Heron.  Remember the great year he had - total yards (receiving, running, returning) record?

    Only to be eclipsed by Greg Pruitt who used tear away jerseys all year to pump up his stats

    Those were bad years but not the worst.

    That 1 -15 year was just brutal.   Poor Andre Tippett.

    Rod Rust, Dick McPhereson years were as bad as it gets.

    The #1 positive for next year is this team has enough talent on defense to DOMINATE - but they need a defensive coordinator who isn't named Bellicheck.

    Dominanate? Why?

    I worry about people like you.  Siiting around with nothing better to do than jump on a boston website because your life is so hollow and miserable.

    Well I don't really worry.  What I meant to say was I wish people like you would drop dead.

    Just to put you out of your misery.  You, the guy sitting around, picking the scales off your rotting scalp, eating hot pockets and going on the boston fan board to start trouble because you are a complete loser from new York without any friends.

    With body odor that could choke a goat, you switch back and forth from porn sites to boston.com - hopelessly lonely because everyone hates you.

    Geez Schum I like your posts but so harsh toward me. The only thing you got right was about the porn sites :)  Happy to meet up with you anytime. My take on you is 5'9 or less, never go to the gym and make less than 100k per year. Happy to compare personal stats with you anytime.

    1. ridley and vereen were very productive this year and should only get better, not to mention they are only in their early 20's.

    2. Brady had a very good season, even at 35. he may be able to play at an elite level for another three years.

    3. the defense improved vastly during the season, and is very young.

    4. gronk will be back and healthy next year, same with edelman.

    5. chandler jones may be a legitimate pass rusher in this league and is going to get much better.

    6. the pats should have a legitimate return man next year when jeff demps is healthy.

    1.  Need a feature back.  Thes guys do well sometime in the system the Pats run. Need a new system, imo.  More running and that starts with a feature back who can pound the ball every game and is a part of every game.  This RB merry go round isn't working anymore.

    2. Brady can't carry the team on his back anymore.  Need to run the ball more and not have to rely on TFB to do it all.  He just can't do it game in and game out anymore.  He is a luxury and can still throw the ball but he really needs a rb that help carry the team.

    3. LB's are good but slow.  Need one  good and fast LB for depth and passing situations.  Spikes and Hightower can't cover the pass.  CB's are a mess.  Need some big strong CB's. Denard is a keeper though.  Talib, can he stay healthy? Has never played a full season. Keep DMC at safety, dump the others.

    4. TE is solid with Gronk, AH81, Ballard and possibly Hooman.

    5.  I like Jones, he needs time to develop both mentally and physically.

    6.  Hopefully Demps can be the returner the Pats need.  The return game has never been a threat to the opponent.  Need someone who can be a return threat.

    Would like to add that I think Welker and Lloyd can stay but need a legit deep threat.  Edelman can't stay on the field and isn't even close to as good as welker and certainly can't take the place of Lloyd.  Just stop trying to work him in as a WR, he isn't one.

    Just stop trying to turn half these guys into system players, it isn't working.  Need true talent, not system type players.

    You play to win the Super Bowl.

    I would rather be 10-6 with a Super Bowl Ring than 12-4 and home in February.

    As a Scientist, a redundancy of results allows me to predict results with 95% certainty probability.

    I can predict, with 95% certainty, that what the Patriots have been doing ain't working.

    Results show it hasn't worked since 2004.

    Let the past go folks, it's over.

    The Patriots offenses has failed to deliver in critical playoff games, especially where they the other Team brought a punch you in the mouth strategy.

    The Patriots D has been adequate as long as the Patriots score 30 or more points.

    You either figure out why the Pats Offense disappears in tough, physical games

    Or you build a tough, physical D

    But to continue on the current path is well, the true definition of insanity.

    Positive?

    The Ravens will be drained like Sanchez did to the Jets to keep "elite" Flacco, leaving little cap room or resources for the whole team.

    Re: positives going into next year

    I for one find it encouraging to see a positive thread in the forum today.  I watched last night's game trying to be as objective as it is possible for a rabid long-time Pats fan to be.  I, too, am optimistic about next season for a number of reasons some of which have been listed in this thread.  Yes, the team has some needs and those have been disccussed here.  Each of those needs is within the capacity of the Pats to address.  Whether they will do so effectively or not is a matter of management skill and luck.  The former the team has; the latter will play itself out over time.

    What I saw last night I consider to be an uncharacteristically poor performance in the red zone both on offense and on defense.  The Pats offense is clearly the stronger of the two and, therefore to me, the bigger disappointment.  Although injuries are part of the game there are four that I believe are worthy of note that happened at some point leading up to last night's result.  They are:

    1) Gronk's forearm - goes without saying I know but the guy is simply uncoverable and his absence in a game where the talent and intesity level is so high was significant;

    2) Talib's hamstring - is he a shutdown corner? I don't know but he was doing a good job on Boldin to that point.  His departure marked the beginning of a downturn in the team's ability to defend the pass not only from a coverage standpoint but from an aggressiveness standpoint overall.  I have no idea what the blitz numbers were throughout the game but the Pats didn't seem to do much of it after Talib went down;

    3) Jones' ankle - early in the season Chandler Jones was rapidly becoming a force in the Pats pass rush.  After the ankle injury, even when he was cleared to play, he was no where near the same player;

    4) Edelman's foot - reasonable fans can dispute the level of contribution Edelman made this season but I consider the loss of someone with his ability to do a variety of things well and make an impact on both offense and special teams significant.

    Beyond the injuries, and I believe Tom Brady to be the greatest QB ever, Flacco outplayed Brady last night.  Why is a function of many things but in my opinion Flacco wasn't facing the Ravens defense, had more impactful wideouts and also just played better.  Am I a Flacco fan?  Not by a long shot but it is what it is.

    I know much of this has little to do with the title of the thread but I can't quite bring myself to post on the seemingly countless negative threads on this board today.  I thank redsoxfan94 for initiating this thread and applaud all those who have chosen to remain positive on what I know for me is a day when it is not easy to do so.   I have been a Pats fan since I was a kid and that goes back to the formation of the franchise (yeah, I'm that  old) and I've never seen a better coach than Bill Belichick and think he's among the best GM's in the league.  With ownership like Robert Kraft's and football stewardship like BB's I remain quite optimistic for this team's chances going forward.

    Just my thoughts.

    Can anyone point to a single emotional play by a patriot today?  Remember when Bruschi would play?

    There is no emotion.  It is all business and it's on the coach.  they play football, an inherently emotional game, like a bunch of robots.

    then when they get slapped in the mouth the robot keeps saying "That. Does. Not. Compute."

    Nobody ever complains about them being robotic when they win 12 to 14 games every year.  Somehow I think it has more to do with execution than emotion.
