    POST-GAME POLL...What Will Pats 2010 Record be?

Note : I have adjusted the header to read "Post -Game "

IN 2010 ...Lets All Try & Keep It Real
(Tip O the cap to that glorious 2001 season .
That tired ol' phrase was big in '01 wasn't it ? )

The Pats are probably not going 14-2 this season ...

But they're not going 8-8 either

HERES MY TAKE AS OF RIGHT NOW  :

I've yet to hear ANYBODY state that the Offence isn't going to be better than last year , so barring the unforseen ...

The O is going to be a huge asset .

Same goes for special teams .

Coaching ...? The old D -Coordinator is gone. ( Doubt theres many Dean Pees fans out there cryin )
It's a pretty good bet that Belichick will do a better job than Pees ever did and O'Brien should improve on his O calling duties now that he's had a year of experience under his belt

That leaves 1 main aspect of the game that is a big question mark ...

HOW WILL ALL THE NEW MOVING PARTS ON DEFENSE FIT ?

My guess is Great / Good / Fair / Bad .

GREAT - Wilfork and the gut of the D ( Spikes / Mayo)
    GOOD -  The DE 's will Do Their Job ( G Warren / Wright / D.Lewis  / Pryor )
FAIR - The Db's will probably be a hair -pulling excercise at first but I believe they'll end up in the GOOD department before seasons end as the new blood of Butler / McCourty  / Chung  / Arrington get their reps ... I could even see a guy like Sergio Brown ( if he sticks ) eventually contribute .
Note : I thought Sergio played with his usual passion vs G-Men but took some bad angles at times and generally didnt do much to shine ~ especially against the Giants scrub team O ( Dont see him making the cut ~ but will certainly be a P-Squad candidate )
The deciding factor may boil down to the next category ...

    BAD - The Edge .

Let's face it , when Tully Banta-Cane is the guy your counting on to "get after it " ...you're in trouble . He's a good complimentary player but Elvis Dumervil he aint .
( and for all u Dumervil -haters out there who dis him just because he's not 6'2" ...go watch some tape )
Burgess is a one-trick pony who no longer scares any Right Tackles , Cunningham was NOT a QB terror in College , so it's a big leap to expect much now that he's in the bigs. Guyton / Ninkovitch/ Murrell ... ? C'mon , man ...lunch pailers all ( which is normally fine if you've got a McGinest or Vrabel to round it out )

NOTE : I thought Burgess looked like a lost rookie vs G-Men ~ took terrible angles , showed no pop , and continually allowed his Left side of the Line to be overrun ...WE NEED NEW BLOOD ON THAT LEFT SIDE...FAST !

No sugar coating it ...we BorderlineSuk there right now.

       USUALLY I SAY:
" DON'T TRADE AWAY HIGH PICKS FOR OTHER TEAMS CAST-OFFS ...
But I think it might be wise to start forming a strategy targeting possible edge guys that might be aquired should their respective teams start off their season in the toilet
( 1- 5 teams are more apt to listen to offers than 0-0 teams )

Otay ...Other than that pesky NO OUTSIDE PASS RUSHY THINGY  ...

    I'M DRINKIN THE KOOL-AID !

    12 -4
( I got 'em going 3-1 in each quarter of the season )

    WHAT SAY YOU ...

WHAT WILL THE PATS 2010 RECORD BE ?

Re: PRE-GAME POLL...What Will Pats 2010 Record be?

I vote 12 wins.... I think if Mr. Brady gets to rid the ball quickly the extra TE's will hold off enough of the blitz packages. Finally the offense has many real threat targets that could spell early doom for teams (we Hope). If Brady can dump off over the middle to Gronk or Alge Crumpler it can get 10 yard pick ups in a hurry instead of using Welker and Edelman every time, limiting possible injuries. This can keep everyone kind of fresh and huge threats if all works well.

I believe the new red flag for the NFL will be to test the Patriots defense deep (like thats a real secret right). If Mr. McCourtney shows he is capable (which he will in time we hope), then I feel they have a very good shot at around 12 wins.

Is it me or has this preseason seemed to be huge with injuries for all the teams, I dont know?

I agress Brady will be great, so glad he is on my FF team.  However, I think our D will falter badly against the good O lines and great Os in general.  We need 2 more years of solid drafting and seasoning.

Re: PRE-GAME POLL...What Will Pats 2010 Record be?

I originally predicted12-4, but with the loss of Bodden, I see us going 10-6 and splitting games with the Phins & Yets. The division goes to the team that beats the Bills twice. Very close call, but the Wild Card will not come from our division.

Of course, if BB can pick up a couple of vets after the cuts....maybe 12-4???  %^$%^$%$&$%&%& How should I know?????????????

Re: PRE-GAME POLL...What Will Pats 2010 Record be?

I'm going to drop my estimate to 13-3 based on Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden going on injured reserve.

Ty Warren, when he's healthy, is a real boost to the run defense.  Last year he wasn't healthy.  I expected he would be mostly recovered this year.  His replacements will be so-so.  That's a dropoff.

A month ago I had Leigh Bodden being a backup to McCourty and Butler, but not by much.  He'll still be missed because the CB position is thinner now, and depth is important.

Even with these departures, the defense is still a pretty hot commodity.

The line is a bunch of no-name run specialists and pass specialists beyond Vince Wilfork, a bit vulnerable to an Indianapolis-style no-huddle, although the no-huddle is in trouble these days.  Too soon to say that Ron Brace has blossomed but he is a starter and he does get inside bull rush sacks.

The new linebackers are hot stuff compared to what we saw last year.  Er, Spikes is a little too hot, but he plays the running game aggressively.  I expect more sacks out of Cunningham than the national media expect, and I also expect more out of Burgess than the national media does.  Mayo can get back to his rookie of the year status, claiming that TBC will slip from last year is disingenuous, and the backup LBs are quite good.

The defensive backfield is all kids but Butler and Chung are second-years now, and that makes a difference.  They're all high draft picks and they all had good preseason.

I'll put the defense at maybe 7th in the league at stopping the run, due to semi-troubles up front but with great heavyset linebackers plugging the holes.  I'll put the defense at maybe 15th at blitzing, up from last year.  I'll put the pass defense at maybe 10th in the league, up from last year.

On offense the passing game will be just plain first in the NFL.  Peyton Manning will have to compete with the Pats entirely by himself some weeks because his receiving corps is old and thin.  Red zone production will be night and day ahead of last year.  The new receiver conga line includes Edelman with an offseason under his belt, Gronk, Hernandez, Tate and maybe Taylor Price will develop later.  Moss and Welker are both back.   Brady has had a good offseason and may be better than last year.  Even more than usual, watch Brady grind defenses to bits with those 15 play touchdown drives.

The running game will be better with Gronk and Alge Crumpler blocking up front, and the deadly passing game will open up the running game.  The actual running back stable got worse with age.  Logan Mankins leaves a hole, although his backups aren't terrible.  I'd put the running game at 15th in the NFL because Steve Neal, Vollmer, Gronk and Crumpler will open a bunch of holes that Gisele could run through.  Actual stats will be padded if the Pats typically run in the fourth quarter because they're way ahead.

In sum, Brady and friends are going to outscore most teams, and the defense will make half-decent stops of other teams.  I couldn't tell you which 3 games would be lost, because none of the 16 games look too difficult.

I am also going to go with 10 wins.  Not only due to injuries but they have a very tough schedule this year.

Re: PRE-GAME POLL...What Will Pats 2010 Record be?

I'm sticking with my 11 wins this year. This could be a down year for the Pats, at least they are stock piling picks and this year maybe short term pain but long term gain for the organization as a lot of young players will receive real game action. This team will make it back to the big show in a few years.

Re: PRE-GAME POLL...What Will Pats 2010 Record be?

I'm going 2 be hopeful and believe in the team and say 11 or 12 wins this year. I wouldn't be surprised if it's only 10 wins b/c of the defense. But i have faith in belichick and what he planes for this team. We just need to get healthy and stay healthy. I think Brady and the offense will put up fights and give us opportunities for us to win games but it's up to the defense to finish. Unless Tommy boy is called upon for a 2 min comeback. Either way i'm sticking to 11 - 12 wins and we make the playoffs.
