Potential Pats - Who would you like to see here next year?

I already said who I'd keep on another board that I started and I posted this same thing on another board, but I liked my list enough to start my own spin-off.

Here's who I'd like to see the Pats pursue, pending availability:

LT Marcus McNeill, SD (6'9+" 330++) (imagining a future with him and Vollmer as the two tackles makes me giddy and lightheaded)

DE/OLB Julius Peppers, CAR (I think he could be the Pats' equivalent of DeMarcus Ware - I think he has all of the same physical skills)
OLB Jason Taylor, MIA (to replace/join Seau as resident veteran)
    OLB/DE Elvis Dumervil, DEN (a rich man's Tully Banta-Cain)
    OLB Shawne Merriman, SD

    DE/OLB Kyle Vanden Bosch, TEN
    DE/OLB Aaron Kampman, GB
    DE Adewale Ogunleye, CHI

RB Chester Taylor, BAL (DUAL THREAT)
RB Leon Washington, NYJ (Dual Threat, but more of a scatback; return abilities)
RB LenDale White, TEN (strictly a power runner)
RB Darren Sproles, SD (strictly a change of pace back; return abilities)

    CB Carlos Rogers, WAS
    CB Marlin Jackson, IND
    CB Fabian Washington, BAL

Darren Sharper, NO (could show young guys the way; playmaker)
    S Dawan Landry, BAL

WR Anquan Boldin, ARI (not afraid to go across the middle, tough runner, might want to be #1 target, though)
WR/ST Josh Cribbs, CLE (they can't tell him he's not a big-money player but tell other teams he's worth a lot...)
WR Miles Austin, DAL (not realistic)
WR Vincent Jackson, SD (not realistic)
WR Brandon Marshall, DEN (maturity issues, but a beast)
WR Malcolm Floyd, SD (big at 6'6" 230; good vertical receiver)
WR Deon Branch, SEA (if cut, might be cheap; rapport with Brady)
    WR Plaxico Burress
    WR Antonio Bryant, TB
WR Terrell Owens, BUF (last resort)

ILB D'Qwell Jackson, CLE (played in 2 Belichick 3-4 systems under Crennel and Mangina)
ILB Karlos Dansby, ARI (captain; not realistic I don't think)
ILB Demeco Ryans, HOU (a tackling machine in a 4-3 defense)

    LB Keith Bulluck, TEN
    LB Larry Foote, DET
    LB Pisa Tinoisamoa, CHI

TE Owen Daniels, HOU (a versatile TE with good hands - I wonder if the Texans will let him go given that they only have one franchise tag and Demeco Ryans is also a free agent)
    TE Tony Scheffler, DEN

G Jahri Evans, NO (says he's a good run blocker)

(I'm not that smart... then again, you probably already knew this lol)

Re: Potential Pats - Who would you like to see here next year?

There's a bunch of players on your list who I would love to see in a patriots uniform, probably starting with Mcneill and then going to a guy like Kampman (though i'm not sure where he'd fit in, he's clearly not a 3-4 OLB).  Just a word of warning on Carlos Rodgers, I live in the DMV area and know many passionate skins fans.  Carlos Rodgers is A-W-F-U-L, i'd be wary about bringing him in on anything more than a bargain deal.

At the end of the day it's pretty obvious to most educated Pats fans that the lines are what really need improvement, without significant upgrades on both fronts we'll never know how good the skill position players are...

I'm sorry but I'd be shocked if McNeill goes anywhere. He's like Mankins in that I think the Chargers are looking to see what kind of salary rules will be in effect next year before making a serious offer. I live out west and there has been no talk of letting him go. Rivers is the Chargers offense and Mcneill has done his job protecting him.

Re: Potential Pats - Who would you like to see here next year?

    Nick and ALL:

THIS is who I'd want N.E. to realistically to target in Free Agency:

    WR:
    1st: Demetrius Williams (BAL)
    2nd: Brad Smith (NYJ)
~BOTH teams here have 3-4 decent FA WRs...can't keep them all, and N.E. would get better value making a play for these guys at a position already deep in this year's FA...Also, both players are still very young @ 27, & 26.  Troy Williamson is also an intriguing #2, financially viable WR I'd strongly consider

    TE:
    1st: Matt Spaeth (PITT)
    2nd Anthony Fasano (MIA)
~Like in WRs, not the top guys, but serviceable decent pass-catchers/blockers-With coverage Safeties in today's NFL, IMO It's wasted money that one can spend elsewhere, unless one has the very best of the best TEs-and that's still questionable in regards to the TE-threat with dual-coverage S's, and alas way too much money imho

    RB:
    1st: Leon Washington (NYJ)
    2nd: Jerious Norwood (ATL)
~I'd target these 2 backs as change of pace backs, Younger guys @ 28, 27, that will take over Faulk's role and be more of an inside/outside threat to keep defenses more honest as to not only their abilities, but the choice of play-calling for the RB-Finally targeting a fast, (ideally big) back in the Draft (I'd make a HUGE play for GA Tech's Jonathen Dwyer come Draft (If it need be a 1st rd, so be it)
Personally, The ONLY two backs I'm keeping on the team Next Year, would be Benjarvisgreenelliscalvin&hobbs...(who will make up for the "Committee Approach" in number of last names alone)...I'm cleaning house

    OLB (strongside):
    1st: Marcus Spears (DAL)
2nd: Thomas Davis (CAR)/Thomas Howard (OAK)
    OLB (weakside)
    1st: Kyle Vanden Bosch (TEN)
    2nd Aaron Kampman (GB)
~Nick, like your choices for weakside OLB, AND the order you gave them in here.  Fact is, AD-Gone, Burgess-at best a weakside OLB, not even a good pass-rush specialist, And a FA to boot.  AS we can see, I'm choosing to spend more money at this position than elsewhere...  N.E. needs BOTH positions filled, THEN they can target a young weakside FA DE-OLB in the Draft with an early-mid second rounder, AND at the same time, choose a decent sized draftee to learn to plat Strong Inside Linebacker...  Not only is this draft, a pretty decent one for SILB, BUT OLBs ALAWYS go far, far faster and far more readily than ILBs do, so N.E. could very well be able to target the 3rd-4th rated Inside Linebacker in Round 4 (when someone like Baylor's Joe Pawelek-who last year had over 100 TTs, 7PBU, 6TFLs, and 6 INTs, Isn't a top 5 pick, You KNOW you're gettin' good value here-also TCUs Daryl Washington/Kentucky's Micah Johnson-is of interest, but much higher rated

~ANYWAY ALL, That's just a start of how N.E. could seriously (finacially realistic targets)- Go about rebuilding this team and several spots in Draft and Free Agency...

not a name but a word, HEART! this team has none, Vrable was a big name in NE but was really not a high profile guy before he arrived in NE what he had/has is the desire to be great and work towards that goal.

We have too many premadonas now, let those guys go and bring in football players.

Re: Potential Pats - Who would you like to see here next year?

    @Laz

I didn't realize that Anthony Fasano is a free agent.  I like his game and wouldn't mind seeing him in a Patriots uniform.  He's grittier, although I think Scheffler is more physically talented (which would help him get downfield on pass routes) and could be had for the same money.  Chris Baker is already your blocking tight end.

I agree on Leon Washington and along those same lines I think Norwood is more realistic because the lack of a CBA might keep Washington off of the market, but I still don't think Chester Taylor would be such a crazy idea.  I think he'd revel in the idea of being a feature back in an offense featuring Brady and Moss, particularly if the rumor mill is true and the Pats really are in on discussions for Anquan Boldin and Brandon Marshall.

I don't know anything about Marcus Spears, Thomas Davis, Thomas Howard, or Matt Spaeth and don't recall noticing them in any games I've watched this year.  I'll have to look them up and see what I can find on them.

first resign mankins wilfork and bodden. This should be priority at this point.

Then go sign Antonio Bryant as a 3rd WR

    1st- Jerry Hughes olb/de
    2nd-  Brandon Spikes lb
    2nd- Aaron Hernandez TE
    2nd- jonathan dwyer

    rb of the future
LB position is set for the next 5 years
a TE who plays with heart and can catch, Belichiick type guy
