Posted by Caesar1177
maybe they have no meaning in the wins,or losses, but your mistaken if you think they are meaningless.not only are these players trying to make the pats roster, but also another teams roster if they get cut.so you would think they would show case themselves better, and play better,in hopeing to play on a team.not to mention if a starter was to go down, they could be the replacement.thats a scary thought at this moment.meaningless? not by a long shot.

Good point. If it's November, our entire first string and half of our second string is on IR, we are fielding a team of guys that should be working produce at Roche Brothers, and Bill Belichick & Co. decide to stop game planning, it WILL probably be a really tough season.

Seriously, name one preseason over the last ten years where we've been able to say: "Wow, they looked great!!" 2007? Nope. 2004? Nope. 2003? They actually were pretty good that year, but with guys that you'll never hear of again. The fact is, this team is built on coaching. And there is no coaching in the preseason. It's evaluation of individuals and how they perform in a game. So obviously if you take out of the equation the one thing that makes the Pats so much better than everyone else, you are not going to get the usual results.

    I would recommend Zanax.

Yeah yeah...preseason games do mean nothing. But, what does mean something is losing your starting QB for the season. The Pats' first-teamers were playing when Brady nearly got decapitated. How good will the Pats be in 2009 if they lose Brady? Preseason or no, failing to protect The Franchise is a serious problem.

Another thing that means something is players lacking intensity. Theres' no excuse for getting physically manhandled by the Cincinnati Bengals...whoever is on the field representing the Patriots.

Go back to game 2 of the 2007 preseason against the Titans. Same conversation about the O-Line and how terrible it was and how Brady wasn't going to make it through the season and the sky was falling, etc. How did that season (minus one game which shall not be mentioned) turn out? Brady was hardly touched for the first 18 weeks.

What difference does it make whether Brady is getting blasted in the regular season, or the preseason? Preseason hits hurt just as much as regular season hits do...and are just as detrimental to Brady's health.

The bottom line is...whether in regular season or preseason...the team can't allow Brady to take vicious hits.

Maybe Brady saw the guy coming and wanted to get blasted, so he didn't sidestep him like he normally does.

And I think that was following 2006 when Brady had taken a beating all seasons - body language, sacks, Reche Bugeyes, etc.

I'm sure BB feels the same way you do.  He probably won't even look at the tape.  Then again I'm sure that it's so unimportant that they probably don't even film it.

Here's a little BB football 101.  Every snap of every practise, scrimmage, pre-season and regular season game means something.  Jobs are being won and lost out there.

So Artie, your nuts if you think it means nothing.

an uninspiring, sloppy (missed tackles and penalties) performance...concerned, perhaps...but it is only pre-season; still a long way before anything counts

I agree with anyone that says the pre-season is about player evaluation; which ultimately means who stays and who gets cut. The outcome of the games is, to a large extent, irrelevent.

    Posted by Wizardsjag
Sorry, but I must disagree with you, both the defense and offense played starters most if not all of the first half and a lot of the defense into the third quarter. The Commentators made several references to it.

    Re: pre-season game two.

Hoya looked good. O'connell looked terrible. Both are going to need 3 more years of practice before they are fit to enter a real game unfortunately. Hopefully nothing happens to Brady because we have problems. I actually liked Matt Gutierrez a lot. He had another year under his belt and probabably could have filled the #2 spot with O'Connel the number 3. Hoya to practice squad. I wish they held on to Gutierrez.

Butler had some awesome play. He's the real deal.
