Project the 53 Man Roster

This is a tough challenge but here's my first crack at it. I didn't try to select the 8 men for the practice squad yet. I almost put Brace down as a cut but figured they'd carry 7 DL this year and give him one more year. We can count on at least 1-2 players from the below starting the season on PUP which would save a few roster spots but other than Welker, it's anyone guess. Thoughts? -

All is well except for two
1) Larson will start the season on the practice squad.
Replacement _ Mathew Slater (Aikens replacements as ST captain
2) Winner of competition between Damione Lewis and Gerard Warren.
Replacement _ M. Murrell -

I'll keep reading your projections but as of right this moment I couldn't begin to give you my thoughts as to who will or won't make the team,I know a couple of things that are for sure. One that Crumpler will start at the TE position and the other two kids will see plenty of playing time. McCourty will be in on all ST plays and will probably takeover the nickel back spot or the dime DB at very worst, there are a lot of spots where real battles will commence..Crable vs. Cunningham, Zac Robinson vs. Brian Hoyer vs. Jeff Powe, Patrick Paschall vs.BJGE,All of the UDFA's WR's vs. Sam Aikens,Isiah Stanback and Bret Lockett. Dane Fletcher vs. Rob Ninkovich,Pierre Woods, and Eric Alexander. There are just some battles for jobs that we don't think will happen but they will....It should be fun to watch this team get younger. -

The roster is looking pretty crowded. One can see next years draft topping this thing off.
I wonder if they have any intentions of signing Mankins after this year? A replacement for Moss and a couple of RBs would be nice. Koppens replacement. Not too many needs. Also the pass rush if things blow up on us again but still not too shabby. -

Thats what I was thinking too but the Pats unofficial depth chart had Warren ahead. I looked at the stats and Warren had the better year last year. -

amazing that you guys think crable makes the team!! how could anyone possibly think that? there is no way he makes the team. none.otherwise you are probably pretty close to being right, i think one or two more vets at least will end up here (hopefully some quality at DE, OLB, or RB)... -

Interesting that you shoved Light off as a backup instead of Kaczur. My first reaction is that Light should be playing, but they the O line played very well with Vollmer and Kaczur. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Also, I'd be very surprised if Price overtook Holt. Holt had a pretty good year down in Jacksonville, and WR is a tough position to play for a Pats rookie. I think Price will be well behind Moss, Holt, Edelman, and Tate to begin and maybe move up a little bit later. -

The Crable story is sorted. BB likes competition. It makes the team better. Crable brings something to the table but the problem is getting him there. When he's been hurt he was placed on the IR which I think doesn't go against a roster spot.
The tricky thing is when does a player start to not contribute? I can't imagine him being on the roster if he gets hurt again. The kid has some promise but patience has got to be running out. -

Cutting Brace would be a surprise and disappointment, I agree. I didn't like the pick when they made it, thought he was a reach and not very athletic. However, it is a numbers game and they typically only carry 6 DL on the 53 man roster. I don't see Brace as better than the other 6 I listed. If they keep Brace they have to either cut an LB or DB.
As far as Aiken goes, I think Kelley Washington probably felt the same way - safe. There is no room for Aiken now, we have too many better receivers and Murrell and McCourty can fill Aiken's role on the team. -

Alexander has done nothing IMO. As an ILB he is clearly behind Mayo, Guyton, Spikes and probably McKenzie. Your critism of Crable is well founded. I think if Crable gets hurt again, you will be right and he will just be released. But if Crable can stay healthy not only does he make the team, he plays significantly. Crable is a natural pass rusher and we don't have enough of them.
I have Woods making the team. I don't think either Lewis or Gerrard Warren are washed up, both were starters last year. But, you might be right in that BB might decide to just keep one of them, the one who impresses most. I like Deaderick and called for us to draft him in the 7th round. But, I think he ends up on the PS because he needs time to develop. We haven't discussed the practice squad yet but I could see both DL and OLs we drafted plus the undrafted rookie RB and WR land there along with Zac Robinson. -

You know, O-I-B-S, Ohrnberger is a mystery to me. I never really saw him play. And he's not that big (6'2" 290) for a lineman....or even that athletic. We'll see.I did a little head-scratchin' when we moved up in the 4th round last year to get him. -

my understanding last season was that ohrnberger was drafted to be developed into a center. not really sure if that is still the plan, but i would be surprised if they give up on him this soon, regardless of which position he projects to. but he is probably still pretty deep on the depth chart. i think connolly is the interior "swing" player at the moment, a back-up at all 3 interior positions, kind of like hochstein used to be. my understanding is that the team is very high on levoir. i thought he looked pretty good when he played last year. i could see him projecting as the starting RT in 2011 after seabass takes over the LT spot.i think welch and larsen are ticketed for the practice squad, as they are both very new to the OL and are raw prospects. -

as far as alexander goes, he wont ever see time with the regular defense, but he has been a solid special teams guy for years. and every season nobody ever expects him to make the team, yet he always does. and dont forget, they extended his contract during the season last year. so clearly there is something that the coaching staff likes about him. i think he sticks. he certainly has a leg up on crable, murrell, and davis, for the time being at least. -

He's also been rumored to be used at fullback a little bit so I think he stays too although just barely. I have the team PUPing him for the first six weeks as an insurance sort of thing. -
