Ravens vs. Pats: taking a toll on fans' psyches

A lot of Pats fans seem nervous and on edge.  I think we want this game more than any previous one.  The whole Lewis (destiny) talk vs. another unthinkable SB birth from the Pats and unfinished business/redemption from last two bowls - is exhausting to think about.  The Ravens are a very unlikeable team and they're also a proven thorn in the side of the Patriots.  Make no mistake this game will come down to who is better on Sunday: Flacco or TFB.  Brady owes Flacco one or two great performances.  No other QB in the NFL is as cool and collected under centre, than Brady.  Personally it makes me appreciate his professionalism, preparation and passion (his pysche) for the game.  If the Pats win this one, I can't see how they can lose the SB this year.

All playoff games are a big deal. Ratbirds are a nasty bunch. If we don't beat ourselves, there is no way Ray continues his career.

I'm nervous and on edge before every playoff game.

It doesn't really matter who they play.

It's what this time of year is all about!

Name a group of fans for any team who are not on edge when their team is in the playoffs.  Of course there are fans who post here that are all nervous about the upcoming game regardless of the opponent.  Just be glad the team is all about business and getting the job done while letting the fans chew finger nails.  Which many certainly are!

As a Pats fan I never want to see them lose a game that matters, regular season or playoffs.  What makes the playoffs different is that if your team loses they're out.  Of course passionate Pats fans are nervous.

Nervousness is what make it fun.............just don't take it too seriously, many other more important things to value in life.

I totally agree with you. even with out gronk this is the best group that bill has assembled in a long time. Matt Light told D & C this morning he as a fan now was really excited about this pats team. No doubt about it. this is gonna be one helluva dog fight. I am an official "son of belichick" and I've got the hoodie to prove it.

    In Bill we trust!

    go pats!

I agree, fans are very nervous and why not.  The Ravens play the Pats very tough, Flacco usually has very good games against the Patriots, the Ravens ridding high on "win one more for Ray".

However, if you look at the game against them in week 3, it wasn't one of the better Pats games stat wise and Pats lost by 1.  Gronk held in check 2-21 yards, running game held in check, the only players who had a good day was Welker and Lloyd and Brady had some good yards.  Pats were up 13-0 after the 1st qtr and instead of punching it in for td's they settled for field goals.  And then they let the Ravens come back.  I believe the Patriots have many more weapons now then they thought they had going into week 3.  Hernandez was out and Gronk had a small day so you can say Gronk really wasn't a factor in that game.  But I think Hernandez can be in this game and Vereen added to the list of Weapons.  I think it will be close for a while but think the Pats end up winning by 13.

To cover... you most likely may win..  picking the Ravens to win outright, your odds are lower.

Why would I leave points on the table?? Of course I'm taking the points. I should get the bet in today because I beleive it will drop to at leat 7 by game time.

    Any gamblers on the board?

I have gambled my way back when I ran cards over 35 years ago.

Made money now and then but lost more than I made for sure.

I too feel the spread is generous...last 3/4 games with these guys comes down to 3 or less points.

Those here that say it's the Pat's D that will determine the out come of the game have it right I think.

Taking the Ravens is a sucker's bet, the Pats will win by 17.  I love all the clowns that think they're going to walk into Vegas and take away the casino's money.

Your words "this game will come down to who is better on Sunday: Flacco or TFB". If that were the case then football wouldnt be a team sport. But it is. There are 11 men on offense, 11 on defense and 11 on special teams. At least that is how many take the field at any one time. All in all there are 53 men on a team and there is a coaching staff.

Like it or not this is about which team wins, not which player wins. Sorry.

And winning this will only give them a chance to play the winner of the NFC. SF is the team I expect to win that game. And they are a better total team than the Ravens.

I agree that the Pats are the better team going in to this game. I agree that TB is clearly the better QB. But it will be a team win to beat the Ravens and ANOTHER team win if they win the SB.

What bravado! You expect to win by  14 and in a later post you imply you wouldnt take a gentleman's bet without taking the points. Well, I agree that the spread seems out of wack considering that the Ravens are a tough team playing solid football. But you are a hypocrit. I do not expect you to make a real bet and not take points if they are giving it to you but if you want to make a gentlemans bet why not straight up? Accoring to you the Ravnes are going to win by 14+ ....  Ye, right...

I absolutely agree portfolio1. all I'm saying is that last years AFCCG - clearly showed how Flacco was more effective than Brady and that put the Crows in a better position to win it in the end...but...!  Yet you make an excellent point.  It was team win against the Texans.

In Belechick & Brady I trust...  We can't control destiny but only hope for the best outcome. Everyone knows that the Patriots are the BEST team, now, can the Patriots be that team or something lessor...?  Now that is the question...
