    Revisit Mallett trade

QB's are all of  a sudden in great demand in the NFL.

The Rams are calling Bret Farve , Freeman does not seem like he is cutting it in Minn.

    Bears, Texans, Browns hmm...

Pats ex QB's and players have a reputation for being smart and coming up to speed quickly. Mallett is not just a mid season fill in but a possible multi year QB solution for one of these teams.

Ryan Malletts value has never been greater and perhaps the Patriots need for a mid season boost has never been greater.

Revisit what the Pats can get now offering Ryan to the market.

Of course the new backup QB would be  Cesaan Ober (pronounced 'Season Over') from the mens  proffessional flag football leauge, hopefully would never play.

Well, when there is talk about interest in Favre - things are desparate indeed.

What would the markets command for Mallett or Brady with the trade deadline in a week or so?

..or Brady? We better stick to Mallet or this thread will go into strange places.

    LOL....just sayin'

I mean, really, there's gonna be a time when trading Brady is part of the team building equation.

It isn't what the market will command, it is what we are willing to accept as fair payment. What does BB need from Cleveland, Saint Louis etc to solve his problems? What DL/pass rusher?

How funny is it that somone is more intersted in Farve than Mallet?  Very funny, that's how.  Tells you what the NFL thinks of him.

Rams were interested in Favre. He wasn't interested. But it does show desparation.

The Rams contacted Favre so they could possibly look "decent" while not having to give up a draft choice or player for a QB....I don't think, based on what I saw in pre-season, thaqt Mallet is worth a 1 or 2 anymore....I just don't think anyon e wants to deal away that much given what's graduating/will be available to draft at QB this year!

IMO, Mallet has never been worth a #2. #3 at best.

Hopefully it has been worth keeping Mallett on the bench. The Pats may be using him before the end of the Miami game.

    Re: Revisit Mallett trade

    Two things.

    1) I do not think a young QB with zero starting NFL experience is what teams are looking for mid season. These teams who are desperate look towards older, mostly washed-up guys because they can step in mid-stream and QB an NFL offense they have never seen before. I have never believed that Mallett is worth anything to other teams anyhow (I remember people talking about getting something for Hoyer and that never panned out).

    2) Right now, the way Brady is playing, the number of hits he is taking, and the fact that the defense has been better than the offense this season already, Mallett with three years in the Pats system is probably more valuable to them right now then he would be to any other NFL team.

I take this with a grain of salt, but the national perspective on Mallett is not that high (below Shaun Hill and higher than Tavaris Jackson):

I think a team would rather wait for the draft and select a younger QB with a 2 or 3 instead of trading it for a guy who has done absolutely nothing to impress anyone in the NFL.

Exactly, he does not have the experience to step in mid-season which is what teams (especially like the Bears, Browns, Rams (and to a lesser extent the Texans) who still have playoff hopes for this year are looking for. The Vikings are not giving up on Ponder yet for their long term plans so why would they want Mallett either?

Why would anyone want him?  He's never done anything.  Some Pats fans think he's the heir apparent, but outside of his "cannon of an arm", he was almost outplayed by God's QB this summer.

I agree with you. Since he has been in Patriots system for three years you have to assume that he has at least some knowledge of the playbook. Right now, he is probably more valuable to the Patriots then he would be to any other team.

Lol Farve got a call before Tebow did, anyone still think Tebow is a NFL player?

    [/QUOTE]

Nope, BB noticed Tebow wasn't a NFL player either which is why he's not on the team right now. Preseason is one thing and being the 90th man not an issue since BB tends to keep a steady rotation of guys coming and going for a couple days at a time. But, if Tebow made the 53man that would be completely different

I did find it startling that Favre was called and not Tebow----but who knows, maybe they did call Tebow.  Seriously, what could Favre bring at this point besides a media circus and 2-3 picks a game.....oh, wait that sounds like Tebow.....

So Hoyer and Cassell showing they are starting calipher QB's gives no cred to Mallett.

I understand but does not make sense how proven bad QB's are more attractive than a valued backup from the Patriots who have a great track record. Damon Huard, Doug Flutie, Cassell , Hoyer, Mallett. (Forget Rohan Davey)

So we trade mallet, who we gonna  get that can come in and learn the playbook instanty? In case Brady gets hurt.

The time to trade mallet would have been before the season started.
