Rush Limbaugh as (part) owner of the St. Louis Rams

This is interesting, if not bizarre.  To say the least, I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, being a minority as I am.

I've deleted my original comments here because they were decidedly in poor taste and did nothing to add merit to any arguments I might try to make hereafter.  Instead, I implore you to go to my post on Page 3 and read my statistical analysis of McNabb and one Hall of Famer and tell me if anything BUT race could have motivated his remarks.  I also suggest you read ArtieLang's post a few posts above mine and tell me that such comments don't constitute racism.

Then tell me if you would play for him if you were a minority (or if you would play for an owner knowing he was openly and publicly racist).  Could you support a team owned by someone who was racist?  And if the answer is no to any of these questions, then ask yourself - Is it really good for the league to bring upon itself such controversy?

No, I'm not a liberal, and no I'm not here to talk politics.  No I did NOT vote for Obama last November - he successfully lost my support by midsummer.

No, I'm not black, but I think my alarm at Limbaugh being an NFL owner transcends race.  I'm all for letting him say what he wants - it's on the listener to judge him, but I am opposed to him as an NFL owner.

    Nonetheless,

The question: Is Rush Limbaugh good for the NFL?

I guess to be fair, Limbaugh couldn't do worse with the Rams than they're already doing.

is Al Davis good for the NFL? he is for the Patriots and Patriots fans so I'm sure it won't really matter all that much who owns what.

Okay, I should have attempted fair, if not boring insight into Rush Limbaugh instead of trying to make snide, sarcastic jokes.  My mistake.

The man is an INCREDIBLY polarizing figure, and this is supposed to be a league for everybody.  On numerous occasions, he's made remarks suggesting he's a racist.  As a minority, I couldn't object more to his stake in an NFL franchise.

Do I think the Rams need new management?  Yes.  Do I think Limbaugh should be part of it?  Not in the least.

That drug-addled gasbag would have that team 0-16 in no time.  You could tell from his short stint broadcasting football games that he knows nothing about football but thinks he knows everything, like Dan Snyder.  He would do what Dan Snyder has done to the once proud Washington franchise with his ignorant meddling.

Umm, look I am a conservative guy, and I agree with a lot of what Rush espouses.  But other then he made a comment about McNabb which I think was taken out of context which is what happens to people as polarizing as he is I do not recall any racist remarks and I listen to him all the time. I am not about to say I "know" him but I did meet him at a political rally a few years ago and he came across as a great guy... and someone who would be a blast to sit have a beer and watch a game with.
As is the cause of many in the Secular Progressive movement the modus operendi is to attack someone they disagree with and even slander them if it serves their purpose. I just would ask for proof, I know unreasonable isn't it!?

You're pretty quick to throw out the "racist" card here.  I think you're the racist, NickC.  Conservative ideals make nothing of race.  The thought process is: You work the hardest, you do the best, you get the job.  This is opposed the liberal hippie B.S. train of thought that everyone should get something for nothing.  Is he racist because he believes people should have an incentive to EARN their money by working?  I'm NOT a big fan of Limbaugh (I prefer Michael Savage), but I am conservative, and if you've ever worked for anything in your life, you should understand how these things work.

Whether you support his politics or not doesn't matter.  The question is would Limbaugh be good for football. I say, "No."  He has five times the ego of Jerry Jones with one fifth the football knowledge, and Jerry's ham handed leadership hasn't necessarily been the greatest thing for the Cowboys or the NFL.

Posted by newenglanderinexile[/QUOTE]..it is acceptable to them AS LONG AS ITS ONE OF THEM. Cheat on your wife? Not a big deal for them to do to their own but always bring up Clinton. Do drugs..."put the sc#m away" But Limp-bal#s "he's not hurting anyone but himself" As for Dave66, I guess the 66 indicates his age ("hippie BS"???) So I guess there is NO inherent bias anymore and everyone is welcome to anything and anywhere regardless of race/gender/orientation. Typical tightie rightie BS. In a utopian world their idea would work but it isn't a utopia.

I have worked in law enforcement for the better part of my adult life and I can tell you we are wasting billions fighting the drug war the way we are doing it.
Limbaugh was caught in a catch 33 not even a catch 22! He had massive back pain and needed more meds then his doctor felt he could prescribe him though his own doctor admitted he medically should have been able to dispense that amount of medication.  So it makes people in impossible medical situations either suffer or "break the law" in these cases. He was not an "addict" in the sense most people consider it.
Regardless of this whole issue who knows how he will be as an owner. If he is smart (I think he is) he will put someone in charge of the daily football decissions. Most owners that are any good set it up this way... like the Kraft family basicly does.
