[QUOTE]Who cares. There are plenty of Conservative Red Sox fans who like the job left wingers Theo and Henry have done with the team. Same will be true of Rush if his presence helps the Rams. This is how all owners of any sports franchise should be judged. Not by their politics. If anyone is incapable of doing this, then he/she is an idiot.

The question was not about Limbaugh's politics but whether his racism is bad for the NFL. The two, being a conservative and being a racist, are not the same thing.

In Response to Re: Rush Limbaugh as (part) owner of the St. Louis Rams:
[QUOTE]Those who keep saying Rush Limbaugh is a racist don't have any idea of what they are talking about. His best friend, who also is one of his staff, Bo Snerdley, is black. Look up the definition of racism, please, before you put your foot back in your mouth. Those handful of quotes (that are supposed to prove he is a racist) are likely taken out of context. For example, the "Barack The Magic Negro" song is actually about the L.A. Times. They had an article that said (then) democrat presidential nominee Obama wasn't "black enough" because he was only "half-black" and had no "slave blood". This was when the L.A. Times was pushing Clinton for the nomination. Then, after Obama secured the nominee, the L.A. Times had an article saying he was indeed "black enough." The song is not about President Obama, but about the L.A. Times and their pathetic attempt to use race to help Clinton get the nomination (and later their 180 degree turn on the topic after she didn't get the nomination). So, for those outraged about it, why are you not ten times more outraged at the L.A. Times? I'm guessing those other comments some of you are so upset about have a completely different meaning if one were to listen to the entire monologue, and not just a short snippet. But the real issue is, would Rush Limbaugh make a good (partial) owner of the Rams? Also, another interesting question, since Rush is a huge Steelers fan, how does he move that long-time loyalty from the Steelers to the Rams? I know for me, it would be very hard to be a fan of any other football team.

I guess you missed the memo... Limbaugh is a racist. A tip of the iceberg set of examples from an earlier post, just to briefly illustrate:

Top 10 Racist Rush Limbaugh Quotes

    1. I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

    2. You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.

    3. Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?

    4. Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.

    5. Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.

    6. The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.

    7. They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?

    8. Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller).

    9. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.  They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well.  I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.

    10. Limbaugh even has repeatedly played a song on his radio show ‘Barack the Magic Negro’

We've already been over #10. It's about the L.A. Times using race against Obama when him and Hillary Clinton were trying to get the democrat presidential nomination. The L.A. Times were supporting Clinton, so they said Obama wasn't "black enough" because he's only "half black" and has no "slave blood". Rush Limbaugh (through political comedian Paul Shanklin's song) called out the L.A. Times on their unethical use of race politics.
If you are upset at #10, be upset at the L.A. Times and David Ehrenstien (the journalist who wrote th article for the L.A. Times, and who was the one who actually coined the phrase "Barack the Magic Negro"). However, I've yet to hear any criticism of the L.A. Times or Mr. Ehrenstien, except from Rush Limbaugh himself.

I'm sure the rest of the quotes listed by portfolio1 have an equally interesting explanation.

[QUOTE]newenglanderinexile, it is the principals of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers that have given you freedom, the prosperity you enjoy, and the opportunities your children and grandchildren have. Tyrannies are a dime a dozen. Countries like The United States of America are rare in history. Do you agree with the statement made by Barack Obama quoted in my previous post? "who believed that millions of their fellow human beings should exist in a state of slavery." When Lincoln freed the slaves it was a revolutionary concept. Slavery was excepted worldwide, and had been so since the dawn of man. The U.S. changed the way countries looked at slavery. If not for America, slavery would still be common to this day. However, that precedent wasn't set until 1863 (when President Lincoln freed the slaves). So while slavery wasn't right, it is important to understand the background in order to have the proper perspective.  The fact that half of the country outlawed slavery from the get go says a lot. And the fact that the United States outlawed slavery altogether less than 100 years later says even more. And the impact those events had across the world says the most.

Sorry but you don't have this right at all. Europe had long since done away with slavery. In fact it was in large part because Europeans, and French and English in particular, could not accept the South's use of slavery that Jefferson Davis was unable to get the support of those countries - in spite of repeated, desperate attempts.

No, the US was not leading the world on this score. Nor did the US lead the world when Jim Crow laws ruled much of the land and whole communities would go out to see a lynching.

I'm calling BS here. My post was spot on accurate. Russia was the first to abolish slavery, and parts of England, Canada, Portugal and the U.S. followed suit. But most countries did not completely abolish slavery until after 1863 (after the U.S. freed it's slaves). Like the U.S. in 1808, almost all countries that were in the process of abolishing slavery had only made slave trading illegal, but had not actually freed the slaves within their borders.

So now that we have gotten all the conservative v liberal BS out of our systems maybe we can go back to the actual question: is a racist like Rush Limbaugh good/appropriate for the NFL?

In a word - no. But while it is also most likely bad for business (except with the local Klan and white supremicist chapters) it is not against the law.

Limbaugh is NOT a racist. You look really stupid saying that he is a racist. Look up the definition of racism, please, because you are obviously clueless. How can he be a racist against blacks if his best friend is black?

You've posted 10 statements that "prove" he is a racist. I showed that one of those was taken out of context and means the exact opposite of what you claim. That casts a dark shadow of doubt upon the other 9. I'm sure that if one were to read or hear the entire monologues, they'd decide the meanings are different than what you proport.
Besides, I could take snipits of things you've posted on this board and make it look like you said some things that you really didn't. So, until you show something more, you've proved nothing.

So the question is not "since Rush is a racist..." The question is now, "since Rush is not a racist..."

yes, players are already lining up to say they would not play for him, and you can be sure that the rest of the players will follow suit. i think the bottom line with rush and this whole racism thing is that he is perceived to be a racist, and thats that. i have never listened to his show, but i have read the quotes. that leads me to believe he has made racist statements. now, it is possible, according to the fans of his on here, that if you listen to his entire show every day you will see that he really is not a racist. but i'm really not interested in doing that. if he had one racist "slip-up", then fine i would sit around and listen to an explanation. but there are SO MANY statements that offensive, and i just dont care to take the time to hear some convoluted explanations about how every single one is actually not racist. and i think thats how the general public and most of the nfl players would feel about it.
and by the way, this whole nonsense about barak the magic negro...i have never heard the song (although i did hear about the contraversy) and this whole long thing about how it is actually a slight at the la times....the fact of the matter is that most people are not aware of this supposed satire. the average person tunning around the dial stops and hears that song and thinks either "wow! this is cool, i love racist material and i thought i had to hide my feelings but this guy is great" or "wow i cant believe in 2009 this kind of racist material can be considered acceptable." either way, its good for rush because it gets people talking about him. thats the reason he plays songs like that...dont kid yourself with any of these other "explanations."
