Safety Sergio Brown's chances of sticking?

Anybody else out there think we may have found a ball player in #38 Sergio Brown ?

He looked pretty impressive out there pasting the Saints Wrs .

I understand it's just one preseason game ( and against non-starters ) but it was nice to see a Pats DB install a bit of fear in an opponent
( been missing since Rodney left )

I also liked the way Brown's play seemed to inspire Kyle Arrington to start lowering his shoulder too .

At one point they teamed up to crush a would-be receiver in what I thought was the best hit of the game.

Brown may be a longshot to stick but I for one can't wait to see what he brings to the next preseason contest .

Anybody got any background / thoughts on who this guy is and whether or not he is Patriot material ?

    he is a big dude

    Height: 6-2   Weight: 210   Age: 22

    Born: 5/22/1988

    College: Notre Dame

    Experience: Rookie

    High School:

Plus he played for Corwin Brown for the last two years.

I would not be surprised if McGowan gets cut.

He's only listed as a Safety no specific position either Strong or Free Safety. He does have an advantage having played for Corwin Brown at Notre Dame. He could be a nice find..

That is really tough. NE is stocked there. I guess he is fighting for a spot in ST.

At his weight and height, and what he showed vs NO, he's a keeper and better wake up candies ,  Meriweather and Chung, how to hit people- on a regular basis.

Re: Safety Sergio Brown's chances of sticking?

The current issue of PATRIOTS Weekly has Brown listed in their Depth Chart section under Free Safety .

     Heres the full list :

SS : Sanders - McGowan -Lockett
FS : Merriweather - Chung - Sergio Brown

It was my understanding that in the past the strong side safety was your meat n potatoes guy that lined up to the tight end heavy side of the formation and was the primary safety in run support while the Free Safety was generally more fleet of foot and more of a finesse type athelete .
Nowadays the distinction is much more blurred depending on what the D- Cor has in mind ( and also with the proliferation of nickel /dime packages thru-out the game )

BB has had the attitude of no FS / SS structure. He always had to use what he had. This year the depth is amazing at DB and you could see Sanders or McGowan traded or released. Philly was looking for a Safety not too long ago... maybe a conditional 6th to move up to a 5?

[QUOTE]Was he playing FS or SS?  He looked good, but if they were to cut Sanders, this would mean McGowan and Brown are both SSs, which doesn't make sense. Unless Brown is a FS and can play FS?

mcgowan played more plays than anyone else on the team...mcgowan plays that specialty safety role and all special teams///...sanders is also big...but slow...and makes 3m a year...

It's still early, but really like what Brown brings to the table...don't be surprised to see Sanders get cut eventually or traded for a pick...IHMO, too slow!
