    Salas Salary Tripled

    per field yates

"The raise could be due to a number of factors, and it's possible that Salas had an offer from another team to sign with its active roster. Practice squad players are eligible to sign with another club's active roster at any time, and must remain on the active roster for at least three weeks if they choose to do so. "

possible future slot, much longer body/reach than our current super slot who is open every play (till the playoffs).

You got to figure there is no minor league for football - this is a small expense for a team that has money. It doesn't count against the cap anyway and it's keeping what may be a promising player - property of the New England Patriots. Really it's just a small investment.

so the player can turn down the offer from another team and stay on practice squad? I thought they had to go or is that just waivers?

As far as I know they can turn it down and stay with their current team.

Yep, they can stay with their current team if they so choose.  If the reports are right, the Pats raised his salary to above the minimum for an active-roster player with his experience.  This means any other team that tries to sign him will have to pay him more than the minimum.

What you didn't report is where the source came from:

The news was first reported by NYJetsCap.com on Twitter.

Just happens that the Jets are in desperate need for good receivers. Just so happens the Jets are playing the Patriots next week. This was a smart move by the Patriots.

Yes and if I recall correctly this is the guy that came from the Rams in a trade. He's one McDaniel'ss guys so he must like what he's seen so far and appreciated the Patriots offer enough to stick around.

The increase doesn't really mean much in terms of a better chance of making the team. Least we forget another PS player last year who had their salary doubled then dumped before even the initial cutdown
